First, as a mod on another site I don't see any reason for locking this thread. Nothing inflammitory or vulgar. If going off-topic was a reason for locking threads then most of the threads here would be locked.
Second, a direct attack on any member(mod, admin or member) is not appropriate. This should be directed to the person directly and if that does not resolve it then go the admins. But open attacks go nowhere.

I read it earlier and it wasn't very nice. The other thread did stray a bit off topic, although I wouldn't have locked it.

I'm not a mod but I think that locking threads is usually reserved for when things get out of control, not to single someone out and pick on them. Meh, what do I know, I'm not the controlling kind.
