I managed to get a 91 subaru Loyale wagon for $200..needs a wheel bearing..its 5 speed with 152k...it has a check engine light on...what is the procedure for finding out what the code is...is it similar to the legacy?

yes and no. the ecu is located directly under the steering column. tilt the clumn up and stick your hand in there and pull the black foam down and you'll see a little hole. the led is in there. If I'm not mistaken you might have to connect the two green plugs located in the engine bay next to the left front strut tower. I'm pretty sure I never connected those and still got codes. Once you get them I can look them up for you. I have a few chiltons and a haynes for the gl's loyal. on second though I had an 87 so maybe everything I just told you is wrong. well give it a try it cant hurt

My '84 wagon had a blinking ECM also, but I have no idea what it looked at or controlled unless it was for the transmission. Hmm, that's probably what it was.
