TPS wiring

The wiring for this sensor is hard to figure out. The diagram for the EJ22t says ground is white, signal is black, and power is red. WHile the Ej18 diagram says that ground is Red/green, siganl is light green, and power is white. This of course is the wire color at the ecu. But i'm wondering how i should wire it at the sensor. should i just match the colors and run an extra for the idle switch?

Who cares what the color is. Look at the pin numbers and wiring everything accordingly.

Yes, you'll need to run a wire for the idle switch if it does not already have a wire for it.

well i think i'm getting confused because the black and white colors switch at the smj. so if i know the ecu pin outs it still doesnt help me because the colors get jumbled up at the smj. So then i dont know which color to put where on the TPS itself. It seems like i have to guess which wires go where on the TPS sensor even though its color coded. The only one i'm sure about is the brown idle switch. Which i think is terminal 1 on the TPS if you leave it pluged in and number the terminals 1-4 from left to right.

I think i read earlier that the FSM for this engine maybe misprinted and switched the black and white on the diagram. Can anybody confirm this?

can you provide a little background on what exactly you're doing? What chassis is the car going into? What engine are you using? What ECU are you using?

With all those answers, and assuming the wiring hasn't been messed with, you should be able to look in a manual and tell exactly which wire goes where.

Regardless, you can use a test light and/or multimeter to check for continuity on the wires.

you're right, the manual (the scaned 92 legacy one) tells which TPS terminals correspond with which ECU terminals, but it switches the colors black and white at the SMJ so i'm having trouble putting trust into the manual, it seems to be a miss-print becuase it's so illogical to switch the colors. I mean the red power wire is red all the way from the sensor to the ECU so i feel confident in that one. Currently i have the wight wire on the TPS going directly into terminal 58.2 where the computer really wants a black wire. This is exactly how the manual shows it so hopefully it works. typical impreza signal wires are white and typical legacy signal wires are black so i guess it makes sence

Anyway i'm putting an 91 ej22t into an 93 impreza L. Well, it's already all swaped in -it just wont run yet. This TPS thing is the least of my problems as there was no fuel or spark when i test fired today.

Just use a wire to ground that particular pin at the ECU, and then use a meter to check for continuity at the pin right at the TPS and ground.
