My rant on why we get the shaft in imports.

I was trying to source a set of 98-99 RS wheels so I can go to the 4 pots eventually. And I like the look of them better than the 00-01's.
But I can't seem to find ANY for sale, and the few I find go for outrageous prices.
But I can go to ebay UK or Australia and find plenty of people trying to sell them.
D@MN it all to H&ll!!
If I manage to get a job in Japan, I am going to be filling containers monthly.
Fog lights, seats, wheels, hell just about half of our stuff is tuned down.
( and to think we have billions of more miles of roadway than either Australia, japan or the UK on which to enjoy these parts.)
Thank you for letting me rant. I am now going back to drooling over a b4 and finish my coffee.

thank the us DOT for that.
at least we get bigger engines(it's what americans like) giving us more tuning room

LOL- I just thought it was funny you said that Laurel.
The bigger is better thing.
Sadly, I would take a JDM spec 2.0 ra engine than the ej 257.
Or the sr20det over the ka24
or the 2.5 TT over the 3.0 in the maxima.
Bigger is not always better, but they think the US market wants torquey engines. And good fuel economy. But we have some of the cheapest fuel on the planet (still)
I want my cake and to eat it to! WAH!

That wasn't my point. Stock for stock, yes, their cars are better than ours. But the 2.0 in the liberty isn't nearly as strong as our ej22t, if americans were serious about tuning the ej22s, we would have a better platform to start from.
I dunno, it seems that the australians would much prefer our ej25 from the sti than theirs.
Nissan did a stupid thing. The stock ka24 is garbage. They lightly modified a truck motor and put it in the 240 because guess what, the US DOT isn't too friendly with importing turbo engines!
I'm not arguing that the US has better setups than the rest of the world, I'm just trying to see the silver lining. I wouldn't mind a twin turbo touring wagon.

Nissan used the ka24 because the car was designed to meet a different demographic in the us than it was in japan. That said, i bet there would be far fewer 240s on the road if they had the sr, the ka has one of the lowest wear indices of any automobile engine.
I like the way it is in the US. Perfomance is a relative thing, and US cars are uniformly at a lower level than foreign cars. What this ends up meaning is that an enthusiast has a selection of factory upgrade parts to choose from. In a foreign market, the owner of the high end model has to go to the aftermarket.

Japan DOES get the EJ25. It's in the JDM Forester. And there's a JDM EJ25 Forester motor sitting under the hood of my friends 2002 WRX.
I would rather have the EJ257 than any other Subaru motor except for the Version 7 Spec-C motor. AVCS, 2.5L, sodium filled valves, mmm. Nice.

Where did you hear the EJ20G isn't as strong as the EJ22T? If anything the 20G is stronger than the 22T what with its thicker cylinder liners and whatnot. The EJ22T is a good platform for what it is, but when you want it to be something it's not it's not a good platform for it. Like a high revving high horspower engine.

I prefer our market. I don't care for high rev, high HP engines. I'll leave that to the Hondas and motorcycles (where the power/weight makes them appropriate). I laughed when I saw a Honda emblazoned with a 'Throwback Motorsports' sticker. As if small displacement high rev engines throw you back. They may be able to move the car, but it takes torque to throw you back. I've been in many slow V8s that shove you back and some fairly quick Hondas that feel like they're going nowhere. Feeling fast is more important to me than being fast.

I guess I've just based my impression of the ej20g on how the liberty guys talked about it.
