new brakes and rotors

i just replaced all the rotors and brake pads. i started to drive and it sound like grinding is this normal ? becuase i stopped right away. i only drove the car maybe 100 feet.

Sounds like one of your calipers needs adjustment on one side. One of the pads must be sliding along the rotor.

Take a piece of paper and try and slide it between the brake pad and the rotor on each side of the rotor. If you can't slide it between, it's obviously too close and is probably the culprit.

Pretty simple and fast way to determine if that's the problem or not.

Maybe you put a pad in backwards. Im not saying you dumb, its happened before!

Jack up each corner and turn the wheel by hand (make sure it's in neutral and non-parking braked). Then you'll see which corner the noise is coming from and then take that wheel apart to see whats wrong.

If it's a driven wheel you'll need to jack up the whole end (front or rear) of the car in order to turn it.

Oh, and I know I shouldn't have to say it, but don't try to use two jacks at once to raise one end of the car! My brother and his friend once did that on a MkIV Supra that has about 2 or 3 inches of ground clearance. They are so lucky that neither of them was under the car when it fell off; they could easily have died that night.

2 Floor jacks at one time? like they were rolling around with the car in the air?

Anyways. I was able to turn my front wheel sligtly with only one of the ground. Is that horribly bad, or will it move an 1/8 to 1/16th of rotation before preventing further rotation?

They were using 2 scissors jacks to raise the front end.... sigh, the idiocy of youth...

I guess it would turn a little due to the small amount of play in the differential... Perhaps 1/16th or 1/8th rotation would be okay. Too much might indicate partially shorn gear teeth in the diff.
