93 turbo wagon
I searched the board and can not locate the location of my horn relay
the location listed in the archive does not come up and the car is from OZ.
I looked in vain above the fuse box, I can hear it click but the horns do not blow
I have tested the horns with a jumper wire and they do sound.
I removed the TCU (I believe) to get a better look, no dice.
I found what may be the power window relay looking beside the door pillar.
I have the lower panel removed.
Any help appreciated.

Thanks Josh great info there, much appreciated.
I see the relay in figure 63-4.
It shows it behind the fuse box or maybe directly above it?
I have looked felt and even removed the TCU to get a better look??
Do I have to remove the fuse box to get at it?

Skip, I had the exact same problem with my horns, the problem ended up being that the horn gets current from the wires attatched to them, and they are grounded thru the bolts that secure them to the body. All I did was remove the horns and took a grinder to both sides, cleaned all the rust off, I then dremmeled the mounting location, and cleaned the bolts with a wire wheel. hooked it back up and voila. BEEP Beep.
Hope this helps

Frazer, thanks for the reply.
I had both horns mounted when I tested them with a hot wire
to the battery, They both blew normally.
There is either an open in the wiring from the relay or
the relay contacts are not closing.
Thanks again for the reply

As we all should know,
Josh's info/ diagrams are spot on.
I found it .
It is on a shelf behind the fuse box.
Mr. Frazers comments must also be heeded.
I am sorry for doubting you sir,
please accept my apology.
The horn relay was removed by taking the two 10 mm nuts off the fuse box and pulling it slightly off it's mounts.
I removed the TCU to gain access to the upper nut.
The relay is on a slip mount and can be pulled into a more favorable position.
I removed it and it's cover only to discover it's internal mechanisms and contact is excellent condition. (218 Kmi.)
I then suspected the wiring to the horns had been jeopardized.
I again tested the horns directly with a stout jumper wire and they sounded
but
my test light on the horn wire illuminated when pushing the horn button.
I used a jumper wire to ground the horn body directly from the negative battery terminal....
they sounded with the horn button.
Conclusion: the corrosion on the ground straps was just enough to prevent sounding when the line loss
from the harness/relay were interposed
but when a short jumper directly from the battery was used the
currant flowed and they sounded.
Mr. Frazer was correct, again I apologize.
Btw the cruise control signals use the horn relay coil for their ground reference.
Hope this helps some one.

Don't appologize, I'm just glad it was that simple to get it working, glad to hear it works, and BTW, Frazer is my first name, no Mr. needed. Glad I could help

my horn and cruise are out. All fuses good, horn's good, ground good, cleaned everything up but there was only some white dust on it anyway, no rust really anywhere on mine. I don't hear the relay clicking and considering the cruise and horn are tied in at the relay it seems academic at this point. Any advice?

Clock spring is bad, that's the only part that the two systems have in common.

well I got ground from appropriate wire coming out of the clockspring. A constant ground, a ground with horn button depressed, and an ignition power. Everything else test's out other than the relay. Now to locate one....
all the parts stores want to sell me a fuel pump or sunroof round relay and this baby is rectangular with 3 prongs.

Does the relay have any numbers on it, maybe you could cross it online.

got the relay via dealer for 12 bucks, just took a couple days. Unfortunately it didn't work either. I used a basic test light, which goes green for a ground(while hooked to power) and red when grounded for power to do all this so perhaps it's not sensitive enough.

Have you looked at the wiring diagrams to trace out each section of the horn wiring to verify it's good at the connectors? There is no commonality that I can see between the horn & cruise except maybe wiring issues where the wire may have been cut in a spot that has horn & cruise wiring going through.
