New junker!

Finally picked up a sad looking white and brown (hood and trunk) 1993 SS with frozen front wheels from a bad (friggin' autos!) tranny (what a bitch to get on the trailer). I think I'm going to sawzall the front axles to get it off. The cut axles and transmission are about all the JY will get from this besides the bodyshell. The engine's supposedly freshly rebuilt on the top end (mechanic ripped off the woman who owned it by replacing the valves when the T-belt went telling her they were all bent. I hate those kind of pricks that give the good guys a bad name).

White knuckle driving at low speeds:

The U-Haul truck I had to rent was delivered near empty on gas and drove like it was on it's last cylinder (a Ford with 135k +). It would drop from 70 (it's max on the highway with a downhill run) to under 60 at the top of rolling hills I wouldn't notice in a car. The reason I hit 70 was to have momentum to make the hills on the highway. The trailer also has a sticker stating 45 mph max, yet they were more than aware I'd be driving it 120 miles back on the highway. They also wouldn't let me pick it up until 1 so that blew my whole day as I wanted to get it done early. The thing got under 6 mpg! I used a LOT of gas in the POS and the thing wasn't cheap to rent. I'm going to complain tomorrow when I bring it back.

Radio was playing all '80's on the way back, though, so I was blasting and singing. I'm psyched to jump into this thing.

Why are almost all of the cheap cheap legacies on the east coast? You bastards!

Cause they are rusty?

Sounds like a fun trip, even if it was more expensive than it should have been.

Cool deal. What's the plan?

Body's pretty bad and is missing the turbo grille, hood, wheels, and trunk lid (exchanged with an 'L' trim, but the gille fell off on the way back). Plan's to strip the thing of everything but the bad tranny or junk parts, keep what I need for the rest of my conversion (although I'll just buy a new gas tank for safety as I don't want an old potentially rusted gas bomb in my place). The engine will be for sale and the price will depend on the compression test results to make sure it's good. I think it's got about 135k, I'll check when I feel like getting my tired ass off this couch. I need to figure out how to start it for the comp test as the transmission's stuck in reverse. The taillights are also from an 'L' model. Interior is really nice so I'll be snagging the seats and trim. I may sell the seats depending on whether or not someone would want them (I could deliver them maybe to the shootout depending on if the engine will be going also).

Good damn thing the guy upstairs is a truck driver and could get the trailer out back (extremely tight quarters and I suck with trailers as, well, this is really my first time moving one) and set up so I could hold the car with a chain attached to my wagon and the trailer could be pulled out from underneath the car.

It was like white trash weekend over here and it was great in spite of it all.

Good shit. If you don't mind us asking, how much?

The car was less than the transport ... much less - $200.

It's almost too bad to tear it down as the body's rough but not too far gone and there's the dead AUTO tranny, but the interior is mint. Oh well, it's going to a good cause.

No escalade on 22's to tow it home? Damn :(

When we went to get my 91 SS, we got 12mpg on the way there and 14 on the way back with the car in tow. Just about 800 miles round trip in an F350 Turbo Diesel.

The trailer we rented from U-Haul had no brakes (fun drive home), and I complained and got the transport for free. Spent about $160 in diesel and that was it.

Oh, and you can't cut an axle with a sawzall. Vikash and I tried, and it was about 40 times faster to cut the lateral links than to cut the axles.

hehe yeah the only things I would try to cut an axle with is a plasma or a torch. hard metal.

That's what I was afraid of, but I didn't have to cut them anyway. My trailer had brakes, thankfully, but I think I'll call and complain about the rest. Maybe I can get some money back off the exorbitant rental fee. For the price I should've had an Escalade!

Swap? As in AWD swap? Awesome!

What are you gonna drive in the meantime though :)
