Completely different

It's interesting to me how much different two cars that are mostly the same can drive so differently.

I've put plenty of miles on my grandfather's wagon (more than he himself has actually  ), and I've obviously put a lot of miles on my Legacy. So I know how they both drive in and out.

They drive like two completely opposite cars. My Legacy is like a race car compared to the wagon. My car is reasonably fast; my grandfather's wagon is downright slow. My car really sounds good once you get the revs up; my grandfather's wagon has the same uninspired tone all the way through the rev range. My car is light on its feet and handles very well; my grandfather's wagon handles like a 60's Buick.

Now, I do understand they're opposite on everything except being nonturbo and 4WD. My Legacy is a stick, the wagon's an auto. My Legacy's a sedan, the wagon's... well, a wagon . My Legacy doesn't have much for options, the wagon has ABS, sunroof, etc. My Legacy has had much of the outer engine stuff replaced (stuff like knock sensor, coilpack, etc.) while the wagon has all that stuff original. My Legacy has some suspension stuff (the new GR2's and the Turbo rear swaybar) while the wagon has blown original struts and NO rear swaybar.

But it's just weird to me that two very similar cars drive so different.

Whenever my SS is feeling slow or sluggish or sloppy, I just hop in my sisters Corolla or my moms CRV and problem solved.

Its funny, my folks have a 92 5sp camry, and it drives more like my car than any legacy ive driven.

Tires and suspension make such a drastic difference that it's almost like comparing a Lamborghini to a Lexus in terms of driving dynamics. I know mine is nowhere near as great as it used to be with its 100k+ struts and 262k chassis. Now that I've got a spare front and rear suspension, though ...

Mr. Apple; would you please compre yourself to Ms. Orange here?

You're saying how two "similar" cars feel so "different" yet your car has more work done to it to improve the feel, handling, yada yada. Even so, you're trying to compare two similar cars which if both straight from the factory - would have been very similar; however they're not, and as such, they're not similar cars anymore.

The Legacy SS and Legacy Wagon handles pretty much the same between both models - one model has different suspension to compliment the extra weight, but on a quality basis, from the factory, they're pretty much similar.

Your legacy SS in it's current state to a Legacy Wagon in said current state does not equal an apples = apples comparison.

really, its just proof that all your work was worth it.

I, on the other hand, jump in the camry, with all it's no rear swaybar and 70 series tire goodness, and marvel how it shifts better than my car and is almost as fun (and much quieter) despite the understeeriness, and think 'dammit!'

It has 70 thousand more miles than my car too :(
