3" cat-back?

Can you use a 3" cat-back w/ the rest of the exhaust system stock?

I am planning on upgrading the entire exhaust eventually, but that cat-back portion is probably going to be first.

I want to get 3" all the way back, but I don't want to drop all the $$ for it at once. I may decide to wait and accumulate pipes instead of going with 2.5" instead.

Has anyone done this?

I was going to get a custom magnaflow system bent up, unless someone else has a suggestion for a good sounding, cheap exhaust.

its got to many bends to make a cat back work with the factory cats, 3' turbo back and muff thats all you need.

Methinks a 3' turboback would be overkill, and wouldn't fit either.

WTF...?

Whenever I see anyone ask about exhaust everyone always says 3" is the only way to go.

Where should I go larger, then?

I plan on going a little overkill for right now so I can upgrade later (bigger turbo and whatnot) without worrying about it later.

How large are the stock SS tubes and WRX tubes? If a WRX midsection is larger, I may go that route.

If you are deciding to go big with you engine in the future I would say go 3". I plan to do the same. I haer that it would cause a lot of back fire and pretty loud but I will be installing a resonator to cover up some of that. I would say for now find a shop that will hook you up with a cheap custom down pipe for now. My friend did it and it works fine. I would get a cat back and then take out your cat and take it to a shop and ask them to straight pipe it.

Oh yeah, yes it will fit.

I may just go 2.5", as I plan on dropping the motor into an RS before going real big.

If I end up finding another EJ22T to use for that, however, I will probably just go straight pipe 3" all the way back on the Legacy.

For now, this is my daily driver, so I can't just go straight pipe (my GF refuses to ride if I go that loud).

What kind of shop will do a custom DP? Any exhaust shop? I was just looking around on Ebay for WRX DPs, and they seem to go from $100+.

Well that is one way to go but cheap and quick would be to find a shop that does race exhaust. "Track use only." lol

Everything SSAutochrome stay away from.

A friend built a custom exhaust for 300, and it was undoubtedly better quality wise.

ya know, just cuz you got jipped doesnt mean that they are bad quality all around. i know that they arent the greatest company i recoginized the fact in my post saying that their headers are shitty. you got jipped on the intercooler i got jipped on the headers but that still isnt gonna make be bad talk a product they made that i know is good.

To be Laurel for a few minutes (hm, maybe I should play with myself ... oh damn, I guess I'm not completely Laurel right now), I think it's GYPED, possibly with two 'p's after the Gypsies and how they rip people off.

Settle down hombre. Considering SSAutochrome's track record, they are as shady a business as vividracing.

You, yourself, got screwed on some of their other exhaust components. How can you be so sure that their turboback is SO good, when they can't even make other exhaust components for the same car?

Hmmm. Hate to get back on topic here guys, and the whole Laurel playing with Steve, err um......playing with him-herself, uh, what was I gonna say?

Oh ya. 3" turbo back deffinatelly, if you can deal with having a loud ass car! I got tired of feeling bad for my neighbors every night when I came home at midnight. So I lengthened an STI exhaust we had laying around, and put it on.

I swear I lost 15hp, and it takes a grand longer for my turbo to spool.
Very dissapointed to say the least. I still have the 3" catless DP too!

But its nice and quiet, and I can actually get on the pedal without worrying about any hearing loss.

I never noticed how loud my car was, until I ran it directly following running my 91. My car is easily twice as loud as stock. Still not loud enough, IMO.

I can live with some loud, but not quite straight-pipe loud.

I should be able to get this done once I get my next paycheck. I have logged over 60 hours in the past week, with still more to come.

Here is what worked on my 93 turbo wagon: 3-inch SS downpipe with
seperate dump- pipe for waste gate; 3-inch high flow cat(we have to
check in with the aircare nazis and it makes the grade on a hot day) then
to 2.5 to a Vibrant muffler with two 2-inch out pipes. This provides a
little more clearance for the back roads and the Vibrant is quieter than
a Borla. After a year, a 14-inch long resonator was installed for a little
more quiet.
The performance is good and the sound is about the best I've ever had
on any car . Also with the two final pipes and the muffler painted dull black it doesnt look like a street racer.

Subtle(normally aspirated engines suck)
