Manual shifting the 4EAT

Could someone please explain to me how one would go about manual shifting the 4EAT? (ie. how to go about it, what modes, etc)

Also, is this manual shifting thing a good idea? I was just wondering 'cause Tristan said it might be.

the manual shifts are so slow the only time I'd bother manually shifting the trans is if you are going to be in first a lot. like in a REALLY tight rallycross or playing in the snow. just leaving it in 2 is good enough probably, and for really steep mountain driving I have left the trans in 3 to avoid kickdown to O/D.
if only the AT's would stay in the gear they were shifted to on the shifter. that would be fun, kickdown sucks. do not quote me but there is a company called level 10 that makes stall converters and possibly manual valvebodies which would be great fun. I have driven my friends '68 camaro with a TH350 with 3500 stall converter, full manual valvebody, and a pretty harsh shift kit, and it was lots of fun. automatics like that rule.
Laurelthequeen leaves her 4eat in drive for autocrossing FWIW.

Why would I say that? This is a good idea. But yeah, search around to get the jist of it.

My 4eat didnt fail but I wanted it set up for much more torque.
It took 5 weeks and a lot of money. The torque converter with a different
stall speed brings it off the line well and the shifts are faster with a
noticeable clunk. It was done by IPT Performance transmissions. Through
them I also bought the shift controller which is made up by someone
else who also makes them for Level10.
This has push buttons marked (you may guess) 1, 2, 3, and 4. It also
has a seperate toggle for in and out of lock-up.
This has yet to be installed as full line pressure is used on each shift. Fine
for rallying, but too much for regular use. However, AutoSpeed has a
duty-cycle controller that might be able to lower the line pressure.
If anyone has some ideas on this pass them on.
