Painting a roof rack?

I've searched the bbs and found nothing on this so far and was wondering if anyone has had success in repainting the roof rack cross bars. Mine have peeled and look crappy. I wonder if a little 600 grit and some flat black spray paint might work for a little while, at least. Anyone have a better suggestion?

Krylon semi-flat black will look the best among spray can choices

Thanks for the input. Is 600 grit the way to go before I spray the thing?

as long as you scruff up the metal just enough to provide a rough surface for the paint to adhere to, 600 should be good. Half the battle on painting is surface preparation. Get something enough to scuff it up, but not so harsh that it mars the metal surface.

I sanded and painted the rack today, and it looks great. The semi-flat paint is perfect. Thanks for the advice.

The most durable paint that I have found is duplicolor Trim paint. The stuff goes on nice and even and is ment to be applied to parts such as the trim of your car. I used it when i blacked out my chrome and the grill on my legacy and seems to hold up just fine. Its nice because you can get either a semi flat like your rack bars came or you can do them in a glossy. my advice go with the semi flat.
