Redline in first gear?

I just picked up a '93 SS auto. 207K miles. $800.

Seems to run fine after changing plugs and wires. But something is going on with the trans.

I shifts no higher than 4-4.5K in first. Even when floored. This is regardless of shifter location or "manual" mode. When I check for codes it gives none for the first test. For the second (stored?) it gives speed sensor 1, speed sensor 2, and rpm signal.

Any ideas? Do they all shift this way?

Does the speedometer work?

If so, then speed sensor 2 should work.

It's possible speed sensor 1 is messed up. That's what measures the speed of the tail shaft.

I'd suggest clearing the TCU. Pull fuse 14 EGI/TCU for 20 minutes, drive around, and then check codes.

Cool, thanks.

Yes the speedo works, but seems to read about 5-10 mph slow at speed. I attribute that to age and mileage.

I will reset the TCU and check again.

my 94 turbo wagon shifts the same way. it's kinda sad because it would really ream if it could stretch it's legs in 1st gear. I think I've read other posts here about the 4eat doing that.
