Ever tried?

Would it be possible for me to wire the side marker lights into the marker system? They seem kind of useless just going on with my fairly bright headlights (not to mention they don't match them).

I tapped "strobes" into the side markers (Only $12.00 each at parts store.) 1 power wire, 1 ground. It doesn't get any easier. I'm gettin ready to cobb some directionals 'couse none of mine work. I've tried everything. I don't think I'm gonna look for shorts inside the dash. (I'm cheap). I think I'll Re-Wire the strobes to make directionals. :idea:

That would probably be a better, and definitly more legal solution. Strobes are not toys, they are emergency signalling devices to be used ONLY by emergency and authority vehicles.

Very useful diagrams, but if my directional problem is in the wiring? or the Leverswitch that diagram may not be too helpful.

IF your directional problem is in the wiring, I think that diagram is the PERFECT solution to your problem. This way, your directionals will be seen from the sides during the day.

I just received an opinion on checking the Hazard flasher switch. That sounds logical because if it's always "on" or "off" it will disrupt the Directional system. I'll get another switch from my neighbor the junk collector.
I fix Digital Copiers and Printers for a living; and damn if This car isn't any different.

So, I'm going to attempt this blinker mod. My problem is, where in the hell are the blinker wires at? Are they behind the fender? And if so, is the fender as easy to get off as just taking those 4 or 5 screws off the top? And pulling up?

BTW, I just took my front blinkers apart...they were covered in mold and random crap. Smells to me like they leak. Anyone else have that problem?

My '90 is near mint condition. I just bought it for 300 bucks from a toyt little number who didn't want to fix the exhaust and rear struts (and directionals). 250 bucks later (550 total, I got a mint Legacy with no directionals. Oh yeah, 66,000 miles. (That's like my fa'sha's Nissan with 1,000 miles).

So, does anyone have any ideas on how to get access to the blinker wires? I'm baffled. My local mechanic thinks that the parking light bulbs aren't going to be able to handle being flashed, let alone the 24 volts you'd be running to it when flashing with the lights on.

I thought all production cars right now used 12 volt electrical systems.......

My major concern is that they wouldn't be as bright as needed.

The wires can be gotten to by unhooking the corner lamp and pulling on the wire some. It has quite a bit of extra wire back there.

Also, no, the fender isn't that easy to get off. There are the 4 or 5 bolts right under the hood, then 2 you can only get to with the door open, one on the bottom, and 3 holding it to the bumper that you have to remove the fender liner to access (I think you need to do that to get to 2 of them). I took mine off to paint it not too long ago.

Well, 24v came from when you have the headlights on, the parking lamps are on as well....if I turn the blinker on, wouldn't that send 24 volts to the corner? (if I were to wire it as such)

Okay. That makes sense.

The thing is, the most it would get is 12 volts. I tried wiring mine up, and when both are on, not much changes. I'm confused.

I think you need to switch to dual-filament bulb bases with a separate ground and +12 volts for each filament.

I tried wiring it up with a base that had a common ground, and that didn't work, since subarus use a switch-ground setup.

Do they make Dual-Filament Bulbs to fit my car? If so, then I'm all set.

They will fit, but the bulb bases weren't made to use 2 filaments.

I had to dremel out the hole to be larger and stuck a larger bulb i there.

So you actually did a mod similar to what I want to do? Sweet. I'll have to refer to you then while I figure out how to do it.
