Automatic seat belt relay

I am having trouble determing the problem with the automatic seat belt on my 1992 Subuaru Legacy L Wagon. I have determined that the motor that pulls the seat belt in the track works but only in one direction. In other words the motor will push the seat belt to the open position when the car door is open but it will not pull the seat belt to the closed positon when the car door is closed and the ignition key is turned to the "on" postion. It worked fine until last Friday (August 19). So, I took apart the motor and checked the cable and everything looks okay. Also it is only the driver's side that is not working properly.
My question is this: Is there a relay of some sort that could have burned out that tells the seat belt motor when to push and pull the seat belt? And if so, where is it located? I picked up Haynes repair manual and have looked at Chilton's as well but neither mention the automatic seat belt system or show the schematic for it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am bringing this back from beyond dead!
My drivers side automatic seat belt decided yesterday that it would not release when I open the door.
I switched out the auto seat belt with an older one I have that I know works.
When I installed the new one it was in the door open position.
I hooked everything up and shut the door and it came to the normal door closed position.
Opened the door............and.......... it wouldn't release again.
I looked at the diagram links above?.. .I'm still stumped. can someone help?

seat belt diagnostics say the same sensor is bad for the old and new belt assemblies?

I've actually figured it out!!
It was the wiring harness from the door to the car. There was a corroded wire in the bunch. so I took the door off and replaced it with the one from my 92 and BAM! it worked! so I'm off to the hardware store to get a soldering iron and some good waterproof tape from the plumbing area!

ok so here's the little bugger that made the seat belt stop.
here is the temp look of the car while I worked on the stock door.
and here is what the bundle of wires looks like now that I'm done.

not in the plug, but very close to the end... the wire (see picture above) was completely severed and had to be soldered back together.
