Is there an advantage to doing this? I am envisioning a less bulgy side wall, Would the tire would roll less when cornering?

Would probably roll less, but the sidewall's "camber" would go positive easier, anyway.

Stiffer / lower profile tires usually give better results.

Yeah, they just blow everytime you go over a speed bump.

Have you tried just adding a few more psi to the tires. That will help a fair bit on the asphault but will hurt a hair on the gravel. Some here run pressures around 40psi. Lower profile tires are clearly better but not as cheap as air.

running wider wheels and same tires make you more likely to break the bead.

running a wider wheel within the normal limits is a good idea for handling. My bmw has 7.0" wheels with 205's, and the sube, 6.5" wheels with 205's. That and the different sidewall stiffness between the RE730 (bmw) and RE92(subaru) makes an astounding difference in cornering confidence. You can easily feel the difference in how much the tires roll around a tight corner

of course the re92 is sh!t and the RE730 very good, but the rim has something to do with it as well

RE92's have HORRENDOUS sidewall stiffness. It's almost identical to a motorcycle tire in terms of stiffness while uninflated.

That'd be like comparing the RE070's with the RE92's. No contest.

A Legacy would be strange with the stretched tire look.
