Hi, I'm a Spanish Legacy owner.

First I can not decode the Vin correctly. VIN: jf1bc7al0eg016473
bc7???? year E????? is there different vin schema?

It is a 90 or 91 Legacy GX 2.2l

I need a driverside headlight assembly.
At official dealer they told me there are two versions: GX and let's call "other"

Other Headlight OEM# 84004aa050 222,87$
GX " " aa091 416,26$ replaces aa090

So I'm pretty confused as online part shops offer a unique Headlight for all 90-94 legacy.

Wich is the difference?
It is very difficult to locate GX version at yunkyards here at Spain.
Would it be possible to fit aa050 into my GX? that one seems easyer to find

Yes, there are two different body styles, and two different headlights.

I found these pictures in the photo gallery.

The early ones look like this (pre-facelift):

Later 92-94 headlights (post-facelift), look like this. In europe the facelift may have occurred in 91. I don't know.

I think mine are pre-face lift.
The car looks exactly the same unless for the hood air intake and fog lamps. Same color too

Well, now I would like to know how can I ask at the yunkyard for the correct headlight calling by phone.
Would it be enough supplying part of VIN? such as BC7?
The Subaru parts dealer asked me the VIN to identify which one did I need.

how can I tell them to look for pre face lift (it's not easy to translate that and make them understand as Subarus are not very common here in Spain)

I don't know how junkyards identify parts in Spain, but in my experience in the US we just tell the junkyard parts person, "I have a 1991 Subaru Legacy. May I have price and availability of the driver's side headlight, please." That's all it takes here in the US. But if the parts person needs more information, he or she will ask.

Many junkyards have a cross reference that will tell the parts person what model years are interchangeable if they don't have the part for the exact year car you requested.

Here in the US, the parts person at most Subaru dealers usually ask for the VIN too and are not willing to cross reference the requested part.

By the way, is Spain a right-hand-drive country (you drive on the right side of the road and oncoming traffic is on your left)? Are your headlights lens made of glass or plastic? Are the $ figures you posted US dollars?

Well I just was very lucky, I fund parts for my suby just 60 miles away : front bumper cover and absorber and left headligth.
There was the two versions there pre lift and post lift:
The pre lift just had the headlight I needed
The post lift is '93. It has both headlights.

I bought mine for just 40€ (www.xe.com to convert to $)

they won't stay there for too long may be few days.

And finally, all europe (except UK & may be another one ) are left hand drive so those ligths are suitable for USA.
Don't know if connectors are the same tough.

Next post will be about front axle (some noise), by now I will be repairing the mess my father did to this beautyfull car.

Sorry, I am a little ignorant but what currency do you use? I went to xe.com but couldn't find Spain and I'm not sure what currency you use. How much would those post-facelift lights cost in US $ and do you have idea of shipping to US?

All European Union Country, as Spain is one of them, uses the "Euro" currency. Older country currencies like Spanish "Peseta" were deprecated in, may be 2002?.

So you have to go to the currency converter at http://www.xe.com/ucc/ and input the quantity in Euros and select Euros into US $

So 40€ are aprox. 50$


As for the shipping there is UPS and other international "Couriers?"
There is also the Spanish Postal service "Correos".
With Correos you can send up to 20 Kg for 102US$ (82 Euros)

I hope so, unless the yunk yard dealer asks for more when he detects interest from me.

I could not call today to the yunkyard. I've been quite busy.
Possibly tomorrow I will go to the yunkyard so I can buy those for you.
If that is the case, please let me know wich is the limit you would pay for those. I'll try to get them by 40Eur each.

This is becouse there is a small possibility I have to return a piece to the yunkyard, and there is a 48 hour return policy wich expires tomorrow , and they won't return money.

And a question: is the pre and post lift reinforcement bar [9] the same?
the one I got has one of the nuts desoldered and lost, and in that case I could get the post lift reinforcement bar.


And, what is that absorber part [8]? my legacy and the yunkyard one didn't have it.

The absorber is just a piece of styrofoam that fills the space between the bumper cover and the bumper beam. I don't know if the bumper beam is different between the facelifts, but I don't see why it would have to be different so there's a distinct possibility it's the same. If it isn't the same, you may be able to modify it with a hammer and saw.
