Went to my coworker's house today so he could tell me where to wire my gauges in a bit more professionally. After poking the back side of my cluster for about 5 minutes, we flipped it over, and my speedo needle is facing downwards. No problem, right? Wrong. Not only is if poking down, when you manually spin it, spins the wrong way. I have no idea what to do, so I took apart my spare speedometer(boneyard cluster), trying to figure it all out. Could the fields electromagnetically have been changed?

At any rate, learned how to roll back an odometer.

Holy crap. Found out that my spring that brings the needle back was busted. Had to roll my spare odometer forward 80,000 miles. Took me the better part of 6hours, but it's done now. Just gotta get my Face back onto the gauges, and wire the sucker up. I've learned so much about the inner workingsof my gauge cluster, I hope i never have to take one apart ever again.

got it all together this afternoon. Guess what? The little black box gets power(ie:it's hot) but, no lights. I'm guessing my gauges are faulty. And the speedo's off approx 10 mph. fixed that, but broke my gas gauge trying to get the indiglo face off. Oh my goodness. So hopefully i'll get a new face thing from the yard tomorrow, and go back to stock. Too much fiddling around with this shit.   :?

Wow laurel, you haven't been too lucky with the gauges.....sounds like you would've been better off just not getting them.

Hope you get everything worked out.

My brother is thinking about installilng indiglo gauges in his Legacy(I'm smart enough to stay away from them), so I will warn him about all the problems you have had...

Laurel, I have a spare gauge set in my garage if you need it. I'm up in Puyallup. gauge cluster is from a '91 turbo and has ~181K miles clocked.

Hmmm... if you're willing to part with the gauges, I'm more than willing to drive up tomorrow to pick them up...

How much do you want for em? Yard's selling it for $15, but i'm willing to go up to $25 since you drive a subaru. :)
