What manual tranny can be swapped into a '94 Legacy turbo?

Subaru newby, but I'm a big car guy and active AWD turbo Mitsubishi enthuasist. I own a '92 Stealth R/T TT (AWD twin turbo) and a '90 Eclipse GSX (AWD Turbo).
My bro just bought a '92 Legacy AWD Turbo 5-speed sedan! The guy he bought it from also has a '94 Legacy AWD turbo automatic wagon that he kept. He had originally bought my bro's car to use the manual tranny out of it. We convinced him not to part out that car and told him we'd get him a manual tranny elsewhere to swap into his automatic wagon.
So my question is, what are the options? Do we have to get a 5-speed from that same generation of Legacy AWD Turbo? Will a later generation Legacy work? Does it not matter if the car that it was in wasn't turbo? Will a WRX tranny work or anything? Does he have to also swap the rear diff, etc with the car he's getting the tranny out of?
What's the total parts list for this swap? What I can think of:
5-speed tranny
flywheel, clutch, pressure plate
shifter linkage
shifter setup and knob
clutch pedal
master & slave cylinders, hydraulic line, etc
ECU from a manual turbo Legacy
Are axles different or anything on the manual cars vs. the automatics? Did they change the spline count on the axles half way through the years like mitsu did on some of its cars? Are the auto and manual starter motors different? What trannys require you to also change the rear differential and driveshaft?
