Bad vibration in 92 Turbo wagon

Greetings,
I just picked up a 1992 turbo wagon with high miles ( 175 000) and the car shakes badly when I turn the wheels all the way to the stop. What is causing the vibration? How can I test to see if the awd is working ( I have the automatic tranny.)
Thanxs,

AWD working: Jack the car up and put it in drive...all wheels should move.
Shuttering is torque bind. You can't get rid of it without a rebuild or new tranny.
Torque Bind?

Thanxs for the quick reply, I am not sure what you mean by torque bind. My previous AWD ( manual turbo talon) never had that problem. Is it due to the auto tranny? Where does the binding occur?

Ok, well. This only occurs in the Auto Trannys. They have a system that transfers the torque to the back wheels (clutch packs). This system, over age, becomes worn out. That is what causes the car to shudder when you make tight slow turns. The solution is as I said...repair or replace. You can prolong the life of your tranny by not taking such tight turns. I also wouldn't recommend turning your wheel as tight as that goes..it's not so good for the power steering.

I had issues with torque bind on my '93. Drove me nucking futz. I'm sooooooo happy I have my '94 now.
Sorry, that doesn't help you much. Look into a 5MT swap if you do decide to oust the poopomatic. There's more than enough info here on how to do it, including some who have experience. I put a new auto into that blasted '93 of mine and it was on its way out when I retired it 15k later.
Nice bike. What color scheme does your's have?

Thanxs for the replies. I am not interested in doing a MT swap as the car is used in traffic and the body does not warrant any major investment. I really like the car, though.
I am getting a bad vibration that increases with speed which I am hoping is only wheel balance issues.
My GS is red rock metalic.
