OH CRAP! Update...

I was driving home tonight from my condo and I was showing some fool in a civic that his car was slow when all of a sudden my car just started losing power. I made my way over to the breakdown lane as the car was slowing down. It seemed to me like the engine was slowly seizing. I put it in nuetral and tried to rev the engine as it slowed to around 30 mph but no dice. I thought it may have been my tranny that had finally died and was preventing the engine from running. OK so now I'm doing like 25 and slowing to a stop with the car still in neutral and feathering the gas and like a friggin light switch the engine just started running normal again. I put it in drive and took off. I drove another 10 miles or so home with no problems. very very wierd. now let me point out that the engine has been making a strange whining noise that I am pretty sure is the TC and not really the engine. so I'm not really sure what the hell is going on here. any thoughts?

Was it raining or wet out?

it had been raining the when I drove it yesterday. I have had problems with some water in the intake b4 because I dont have the inner fender plastic guards in. I didn't get a CE light though.

Check for a intake hose leak. I bet you blew a hose clamp off or something. I had this happen at the drag strip a few times.

our old GL went dead in a rainstorm, we were stranded, got it towed, they looked at it, and started it up, and it worked fine.

Sometimes the wetness messes with your electrical and things get a little screwy.

Where you on it for a while before it fell down? Possible fuel starvation?

Oh, that's a good thought -- any sharp right turns just before the problem happened?

I was doing some runs from 80 to about 115 then back down to 80 when the civic would catch up to me and then back up to 115. I did this about 3 or 4 times then I settled down for a few minutes and then it started dying. I've beat on it b4 for longer periods of time without this result so I'm thinking it could have been some water in my resonator. I have seen my k&n soaked with water b4 and poured water out of my resonator. I need to look at this again. Its just tough with the lack of time and all...

I think the intake piping is a good thing to check my roomate has a turbo sr20 running at 15 psi and during tuning his boost controler his engine almost died and ran like shiat. he and i both though he blew a head gasket but in taking it apart we found that one of the intercooler pipes had poped off and he had a massive air leek after the maf. Its possible that you car did this but i may have connected somewhat. I would go through and check them all.

I still think its electrical. I have a hard time believing your resonator is waterlogged....

I'm not discounting this either, I hope I didn't hurt your feelings ;)

ok had a chance to look at this at work today. Well I have never seen this before so I was floored when I took a look at my air filter to find a gaping hole in it and tons of paper bits in the box. I took out the maf and there were chunks of paper stuck to the screen although not that many. this is the weird part. the engine had been making this weird grinding type sound that sounds almost like the started motor is still engaged but not at loud and when I cleaned out the maf and restarted the car with no filter and the box open the sound went away. very weird. so now I just went and got a new k&n and threw it in. I reset the ecu and I'll let you know how it runs on my way home. I'll post a pic when I get home of the filter also...

I've had mice crawl into the air filter box on other cars. They seem to think it's a cozy place for a winter nest.... (and this was in my garage!) Especially on a car that doesn't get driven every day.
