What is the best set of ignition wires for our cars?
Where to get them?
And how much they cost?
Part number?
Thanks,
J

If you
need new ones, you could give Magnecors a test-drive. Josh has the 8.5mm fancy ones, I had the 8mm middle ones, they worked good...
The reason I no longer have them is because Magnecors are infamous for difficulty of installation. They don't like to connect properly with the contacts, and in many cases (including mine) actually lost contact and started arcing. I ruined a good coilpack that way and I now have a new coilpack with OEM wires that I'm happy with...
So my vote is either with Magnecor or OEM... Swing by
www.magnecor.com for part no's and such...

NGK wires are the bomb. Just put a set on my car. Not a big fan of the blue, but they are silicone. Ran about $53. Magnecors are usually $100+.

I got four small hose clamps to keep the ignition wires on the coil pack. Works great.

I've got some speaker wires i duct taped on to my spark plugs.
No just kidding. But seriously, the 80 thousand million volts a modern coil produces is not going to get hampered too much by restrictive stock wires. Not enough to make a difference in my opinion. Maaaybe with upgraded coil they make a difference...
Magnecores have issues with making proper contact. A loose contact is gonna do faaaaar more harm than some restrictive wiring.

I'm adding my vote to Brat4by4, I've added the NGK wires to my car and I love them. OEM's work fine, but these will last ya longer and they work great.

wonder if my set was before they had their problems of making contact or staying connected........I never really had any issue like that

People say Magnecors come off spark plugs easily, and I figured out why. Magnecor buys the boots and terminals from Subaru but doesn't always set them together right. I had this problem with the spark plug ends a year or so ago:

As for the coil towers, their terminals probably also aren't aligned quite as well as they should be.
When I installed mine I just made sure to leave some slack around the coil and I also widened the terminals a little with a pair of pliers so they'd make a snugger fit, and I've had no problems at all with them coming loose.
Oh, and I do believe that NGK makes the OEM wires for Subaru, so NGK and OEM wires are the same.
Steve, it might not be a great idea to put more metal near the coil tower. You probably won't have a problem with it but it could provide another location for the spark to arc to.

NGK is the way to go, I think I paid $44 for mine...

vrg3,
Good point, but if it gets through the insulator boot, I likely have worse issues. I did this because I had a wire come loose on me for a while without knowing it. 'What's that damn occasional misfire?!' The spark had been jumping a gap for probably a few weeks and ate the plug wire and part of the end of the plastic coil tower. Replaced the wires and still using the original Diamond pack today. I love these cars.

Yeah, I know what you're saying. If it works for you that's cool... you shouldn't have to resort to that though. Maybe you should try widening the terminals a little with pliers so they fit more tightly or something. Make sure they stick out far enough through the boot, too.

I have magnacores on three of Legacy. Never had them pop off. I have seen a car with zip ties and it actually looked nice believe it or not. I have 8.5 on one and 7.5 or 7 (cant remember, the normal size) on the other two and will purchase them for any other car I own.
The NGK that are being recomended are wear items in contrast to the permanent magnacores.
