17" O.Z's rub

Hi, I am buying a 91' legacy and I have a choice of getting some 17" OZ's or some stock 2.5RS wheels.
The problem is the 17's rub. I don't know what series the tires are so I cannot tell if I can go down a series and be fine. Is there any other way to make it permanently not rub? I know rolling the fenders can help. Is there any other way? Thanks.

what size tires are on the 17's? I am running 205/55/16s with an inch drop and there is not a bit of rub. This means you should be able to run 215/45/17's and there should be no rub there either.

Ya, I ran a 215/45 for a while. Had to roll the rear fenders a bit, but not too much.
Maybe we need to do a fender rolling thread.

I have a set of prodrive P-1s and a set of impreza rims both fit ok. What is your suspension set-up and what tire size?

Ok, I have 17" O.Z. Rally rims. with 225/45/17 tires. I found some cheap nitto's on discount tire direct's website that were 215's.
I am thinking of running 215/40's. just to be safe, I don't think the sidewalls will be too stiff.

I run 225/45/17's and they barely rub. It's all about fender rolling. I only rubbed in the rear, but I rolled all 4.
215/40's would be OK, but that's a TINY sidewall. You run the risk of denting the hell out of the rim.
A 215/45 should be fine though.

205/55/16 is pretty much the same mathematically as 215/45/17 height wise. 1 cm wider approx. I think you should be able to fit the 215's but 225's is probably the reason for the rub.
