ok heres the deal. kid i used to work with drove my car a while back and loved it. if i remember corectly it was still stock turbo. well he came in tonight and asked how much i wanted for it. i told him 7k. he said 5k, i said 7k. he replied that he could give me 5 and make payments on the remaining 2k. well there are liabilty problems if he doesnt give me the money and there is liabilty problems if i keep the title till he finishes the payments.
thoes facts aside, im a little torn about selling the car. ive been debating swaping the leg motor into my impreza or doing a jdm swap into the impreza. i was planing on having 2 cars if i did the jdm swap and scraping the leg if i took its motor.
well with the money i could do the jdm swap and have money left for suspension and have a better autox car than i have now.
what should i do???

sorry that wasn't all that nice.
I don't really know what you should do.

If he is willing to offer you that kind of loot for the leg(granted I don't know what you've done to it) you'd be nuts not to take it. You could get that motor from the JY for cheap because that sounds like pretty much all you would take from it to swap anyways.
Granted I'm pretty buzzed right now

Yeah I'd sell it dude.....you won't find very many people to pay 7k for it.
I don't even think I'd find very many people to pay 7k for my car and everything I've done to it.

7k?? holy crap that is a lot of money for that. but i dont know what you've done to it either. still seems like a lot for a legacy in my opinion. to tell you the truth, i would sell the legacy and build a motor for the impreza.

You'd be nuts not to sell it. It's just a car afterall. You can't take it with you if you know what I mean. Besides that, in the end it will only cost you more money and wind up in the junk pile. The only reason I put it that way is becasue $7000 a nice chunk of change. Nobody will offer that again. If we were talking half that value or less I wouldn't be as sure.

I'm $8000(plus the $3200 I paid for it) into my car. I wouldn't sell it for $7000

well, stereo stuff+custom work(going in as soon as Tim gets his ass to doing it) make up about $3500 of that. Brake parts, SUSPENSION, good tires. And you forget, my car could be faster than yours if I installed a FCD and hooked up the MBC that's sitting in my dining room
when are you coming up, anyway?

hmmmm, yeah the whole custom stereo stuff would take up alot of cash... but you have the same brakes as me basically albeit nicer pads..... you got me on suspension, but only for a few more months and even then i'm only into my car 2,500-3,000 at the most. and no, your car would not be faster than mine, we have the same turbo, and stuff, but you have a slushbox that's dying, and a wagon
i dunno, i gotta get some permission from the rents (my mom is hesitant to let me go, lol) i'll call you when i'm headed up and if i cant go i'll call you anyways

oh and can i bring a friend?

I think you guys are nuts...in a good way. So basically what I'm hearing you say, Laurel, is that you're not willing to part with your car

. I still stand by my sell-the-car statement, but ultimately, it comes down to whether or not you've gotten what you wanted out of it (car) and what you expect to get out of the money you'll get if you sell it. If there's nothing important you want like another car or something else then why sell it?
Edited for clarity

Man, it's a hard ass call to make. But the reality is, if you can end up with an ultimately better Auto-x car, which would be pretty tight and I'm all about having good suspension (though I'm too poor to now). So it comes down to how much do you want to have an old school Legacy or a hotter Auto-x, though still hardcore Subaru.
But I voted sell it. This won't happen often and you'll be making this kid's day/week/months.
But only for 7k. No less than 6.5ish.

do it.
your car is an automatic and is kinda rusty isnt it? do it before he changes his mind.
get all the details on the payment plan in writing, be very specific.

my car has a 16g turbo, agx's, whitelines, custom front mount ect ect... bascily im into it a little over 7.5-8k (including the price of the car adn a new trans) but ill never sell the car for exactly what im into it for and i know that. the car has no rust, just the standard creaks and some extra rattles here and there.
im thinking if i can finialize the payment for the car ill sell it. im just a little torn....

damn i cant believe you guys are that much into your cars. the farthest i was ever thinkin of goin was at most 5 g's. anyway good luck wit the sale. even with all that stuff i wouldnt think i'd be able to sell mines for that much.

If you can get the whole 7 g's then I'd probably do it. You could find 2 5mt ss's for that much. Or an Impreza with a swap. Or just a 5mt ss and then dump the 3-4 g's into mods and be further along then you are now.

I grugingly hit "yes" on the poll.
Only because of the 7k figure...

It doesn't matter what you put into it....you'll never get that money back out again. I've got over $10k in just the swaps I've done....that's not counting any stereo stuff, or anything else that's been done.
Will I ever get that money out of the car....no probably not.

hard decision.. hell, it seems like the more i put into my '91 the more problems i ended up with. lol. i really didn't want to buy a new car.. but it just got rediculous. every month i was dumping like $100 - $150 into it. give or take, if i would have just did the same for another 4 months i would have practically had an entirely new car. lol. (minus bodywork/interior) but i just couldn't justify it any longer. it's hella hard, but for $7k you'd be an idiot not to do that.

I had some kid offer me 5k for my 81 mustang that i bought for 800 dollars back when i was 16 but i just couldn't rip him off like that. Damn conscience.

i kinda have that issue too, but to me its worth every penny

It's a hard decision but if the kid is honestly willing to pay the money, knowing the car you have. Then I wouldn't really feel that bad. He's getting his money's worth in that he's got a whole of mods without paying full price or having to mess with installing them.
On the other hand, it's your baby.
And on the other hand, you'd have a better baby.
