What should I do?

Well, I guess it had to happen eventually, but my trans. just blew so now I some choices to make. Either attempt to put a FWD 5MT in it, or part it out. The motor runs really good, but who knows how much time it has left, so I would be reluctant to put it in another car, plus I can't afford another car anyway. I COULD afford the FWD 5MT swap, but I'm not really sure what I need, and I doubt anyone's done this swap before. I only paid $250 for the car, and I'm reasonably sure I could get more than that parting it out, but I'd really like to keep it too...
Plus I should add I've got a few mods into it too
-02 WRX IC
-GReddy Type S BOV
-Joe P MBC
-GReddy turbo timer
-02 WRX struts (less than 10K on these)
-JDM momo wheel
-FCD
-Cone filter
-GReddy 1.5bar boost gauge
-4 good tires that I just bought
-Stripped A/C
-Removed coolant tank
-Grounding kit
So these definitely make me want to keep it more...

I wish! I can't even afford a AWD 5MT. The rear diff is smoked, so I would have to buy a complete drivetrain. If i go FWD I would just need the trans and axles, no rear diff, rear axles, driveshaft.

why not get a na 5mt and 4.11 diff?

I could but like I said, I will need a complete drivetrain to do the AWD swap, as my car has no driveshaft, rear end or rear axles. If I find it cheap enough, it's a possibilty.

Guy who had it before me blew the rear end by driving around on a donut for a while, then took all that stuff out. I wanted to do the FWD 5MT because that would be the cheapest and easiest way to do it. I was lookin at this
oneor something similar. I just want a easy fix, but I wouldn't mind doing the AWD tranny if I can get all that stuff for cheap. I have to call some yards around here and see what they want for all that, but I doubt its gonna be anywhere around 200$...

Do the FWD for now and wait a bit until you have more money.
Just swapping trannies should take a day, 2 if it's your first time. You'll save a bunch of time when you put the FWD tranny in because you won't have as much stuff to put back together.
I want this car to keep going!

Yeah, thats exactly what I was thinking. Just get it going again, this car is WAY better than any other car I would be able to buy right now...

how about park it until you can afford a 5mt swap. if you can get all the stuff at once it is possible to do for pretty cheap. no point in a fwd suby IMO.

Dammit, if I had a place to store the wagon (where I wouldn't need to have to move it) I'd swap you my excellent fwd 5MT for your toasted one (if it were a 3.9 5MT). Should be easy enough to find one in a JY anyway, I would guess.

If you want a FWD you can have mine for free you just have to help me pull the motor and tranny out of my 92. Shifts good, I think it has about 175,000 miles on it (been a while since I looked at the odometer). Sounds like a cool car would love to see it stay on the road. I am going to put the motor in my Vanagon. I am going to pull a few parts off the car, buy my other Legacy is AWD so the transmission will do me little good. I am not to far from you in Hudson Valley NY.

Thanks for your offer. I might take you up on that, as I have thanksgiving break all next week. I will PM you and let you know.
