Today, my car just turned 144,000 miles. Why am I posting this you ask? Well, I told my dad, that when I got the car last year, that I would surpass his old record of 144,000 miles. I officially drive the car with the highest amount of miles in my family .

My dad set the record on our 86 Subaru GL. We got rid of it back in 1996 (I think) after it required too much maintenance to keep going (needed a new radiator as I recall).

Everything on my car is stock except for:
Timing Belt
Front Left Half-Shaft
Left Rear Wheel Bearing
Spark Plugs
P/S and A/C Belts

I'm just marking it as a mild milestone...I know my car has many more miles to go

congratulations. Many more miles to come I'm sure

no kidding, i bought my car with that many miles. im up to 160 now. my dad still holds the record on his 200000 mile civic

That is what I love about subarus. My GMC truck is up to 225,000 miles, but that is on engine #3 and tranny rebuild #6 ( most of that was before me) BUt I expect the subaru to reach that without any major problems.

When my 90 BJ died it had 250K on it. I miss that car.

The MAF went and didn't give me a CEL so I thought the motor was bad. If I had known then what I know now...I would still be driving her.

235 on my wagon, but engine #4

225 on my wifes sedan, with one engine rebuild.

I've always had the highest mileage vehicle. At least for the most part.

My 94 has 120k, my Forester has 134k, my 91 has 120k (though I don't drive that), my ex-95 had 140k when I sold it, and my truck had 140k when I sold it. My motorcycle has 21k, and has the fewest miles of any vehicle we own.

I bought my 94 and my 95 and my truck with under 100k and watched each of them roll over the mark. That is a great feeling!

180k and I beat the piss out of it. My car is about mid-life. Shit. I know a mechanic whose been rockin his Legacy with a slipping tranny for three years. You can't beat 1g legacys.

I just turned 183k last night. Granted....that doesn't really include the drivetrain & engine.

i dont no the mile conversion but i got about 800,000kms, and i drive it like im in the world rally.

I'm closing in on 174k, when I get to 180k, I'll have had the highest mileage car ever in the family (our old GL made it to 180k before underbody rust set in and we traded it for this legacy). The other two current vehciles in our family have 92k (our '00 Odyssey) and 65k (our '02 civic).

226K miles on my 91 CRX Si when i sold it. original engine-no rebuilds, never used any oil. I had to rebuild the bearings in the tranny though, cause i hauled a big Uhaul trailer a couple times and that got those bearings. It was ready for T-belt #3 when i sold it. Only put brake pads on it one time.

dad's got a 4 spd civic, orignal motor, orignal trans. he tows a trailer with it regularly. few years ago he towed about 1500lbs in compost with it weekly and maxed it out at 2000+ lbs of bricks. the tires on the trailer blew yet the car still lives, and it just wont die (knocks on wood).

that's a lot of towing for a Civic

i'm surprised peoples numbers are so low. Isuzu Rodeo - 240k with no major engine or transmission work, still kickin. it has a gm engine too. My girlfriends fam has an old landcruiser and a corolla, both 300+ I wanna hear about some people with 400+ subies, they must be out there.

It's all how something's driven, also. My Legacy has been BEAT on and neglected. I've seen old men brag about 300k from their Cadillacs that are babied and garaged. Big deal. The Legacy's been pounded hard down dirt roads the post office stopped delivering mail down, driven hard on the street, 10k+ oil changes and parked wet in New England weather. I'm not so impressed by high mileage Camrys and such as the cars are so boring and unresponsive to drive that they are rarely pounded - what's the point of doing it anyway? A guy I work with has a Cavalier with 250k on it ... but it's a 2001, so it's not as impressive as it sounds. He even had an Escort hit almost 300k. The guy doea 60k highway a year, so there's little stress on the drivetrain or environmental wear and tear.

I really wonder about how that affects the car. In my case, the car gets run really hard, but i kinda feel like a car under my car should outlast a typical driver. I match revs, run soft while cold, never smack curbs and stuff, and change my fluids on an accelerated schedule. Some things, like wheel bearings, will go sooner because of stress from sideloading, or accessories from spending so much time at high revs, but the engine, drivetrain, and suspension should outlast a more civil driver, it seems.

Yep, if you still take care of it, it should last a long time...

Its people who are putting nitrous in their car in high doeses, beating on it, and going without and oil change for 10k who are going to run into problems from working it hard...

That's what makes the Legacy so great. I just rebuilt my front end for the first time. I only replaced the right front wheel bearing because I had to replace the spindle for lack of ability to get the ball joint out. The balljoints were replaced once before. I've hit curbs sideways several times and done more than my share of handbrake turns wet and dry. Hand brake hardly does anything anymore. Still have the rest of the original wheel bearings. all my accesories were/are extremely long-lived. I replaced the alternator at around 250k and my hardly-used A/C compressor packed it in somewhere around 210k IIRC. Still have the PS pump and starter (though that has to be whacked every so often).

My car has a case of the teenage driver..it gets its fair share of driving hard.

I do not, however, run into things; no curbs, bumps, or any of that stuff. I take it easy over those.

I did my oil change today...oil was dirty. Then again, I always get dirty oil. I think it's just the previous history of my car.
