Why it pays to store all those extra parts.

The wifes sedan yesterday started having horrible but classic symptoms of a bad power steering pump. I knew it was bad, but had delayed replacing it.

So I took it down to the shop and swapped it out with the extra one I had from a donor wagon.

The bad pump had the bearings missing!

So I drove it home.

Hmmm, whats that wobble?

Bad passenger drive axle!

Good thing I have two or three of those lying around!

Off to the shop!.

At least I hope its just the axle, and not the wheel bearing too

Ah, but if it is a front bearing...you can do that while doing the axle. Front bearings are really easy.

It is cool to have extra parts lying around though. I know Blackbart has a ton.

It was the axle.

But I also found the steering rack passenger side boot is torn to squat.

But at least now it drive safely!

Changing out the axle took no time at all. Getting the spring pin and out took 4 times as long GRRRRRRRRR. I really didnt want to drop the exhaust so I hand just a little access area, and then the axles I swapped were 180% off on their alignment holes, so it took a few tries on the wrong side of trying to get the pin in before I spun it around and it went right in.
