Can someone email me a base map please? I need something to start with.
Got the PP6 installed, but not running. I clicked in the little bypass unit and it runs fine, but need a map now.......

Enter zeros in the main map and 1 in any side maps. That will just stock setup. Then you just add or subtract on the map where it needs to be.

Yeah, it appears I "need to read the instructions"
I thought that the developers manual was the only instructions. Since I posted the original question, I found the actual start up instructions. Maybe it will work!

Ok, my kids just fucked me. One laptop plus juice = laptop with keys that are tied to each other.
I think I can still use the lap top for basic shit, but I can't use it to type. And keys 4 and 8 are tied together. So if I type 4, 48 comes up. And if I type 8, 48 comes up.
And to top it off, it now randomly dies.
While this was a free laptop, I spent $125 on a new battery 4 days ago. Crap.

is perfect power able to control timing as well?

yes, but not for me.....yet.......

Well, my POS laptop, my inability to printout the instructions at home, and maybe some other problems still leaves the Perfect power not running.
Wagon still runs fine though with the plug installed, so I am pretty sure I wired everything up correctly.
But there in lies a possible problem. Instructions say to wire and test as you go. I wired EVERYTHING, including Temp and O2 sensor in to start with. This may be a problem, or it may not, depending upon me actually getting a map from an existing user.

you say it runs with the little white plug installed? if so you need to set your global settings. have you done that yet? this has to be done wit hthe PP plugged to your laptop and at least the ignition turned on. Then you set it for 4 cylinders, ingnition to type 12 yadda yadda. Sean usually does this be fore it leaves them, but mine got screwed up before i even turned the key.

Ya, I must have something wrong in the global settings, but then again, I don't know exaxtly what I am supposed to have in those settings. I am stopping by rallitek today to get the map.

doug, could you ask sean what they think of k&N filters versus a paper filter and if this could be helping cause my wierd maf settings. just a thought. If you get a chance tell sean MOST of my bucking is gone. see if he has any other ideas. if you get a chance i would appreciate it.

You could try brake cleaner on the laptop.

It LIVES.
But with a dead 0 map. so at this stage I just have a $ computer that lets me drive my car as stock.

What do you mean a dead 0 map?
Does it work? Or do you just not have the laptop now to play with it?

Yeah it works, but all the settings are at zero so I am not doing anything to the stock ecu signals.
My laptop is a WIN98 POS and so I have to mess with the maps on my work computer, email them to myself and then download them onto my laptop.

So the software won't work on your win98 laptop? Or is it due to the stuck keys

Iam pretty sure its the laptop,

OK, off boost, the 0/dead map runs pretty much like when the Perfect Power is not hooked up.
But.....
On boost, I get huge bucking/hesitation problems.
No clue, ok, a little suspicion that the fact I intecepted my MAF signal before the Perfect Power may be a problem. I will have to bypass my interception and see if this hesitation goes away.
Remember, the wagon runs about 99% perfect with NO EM. Adding the EM as a ghost just by itself is already causing problems.

Hmm, yeah, your manipulation of the MAF signal was relying on the particular input impedance of the ECU's ADC, which is probably different from the Perfect Power's.

The PP is a piggyback, right? Does it have control over the engine at all times or does it jump in to change parameters when passed a certain condition?
Example, the UTEC on WRX/STi's isn't always in control. It takes control once you reach a certain load point (boost+RPM) which is usually right when positive vacuum starts. This kind of hesitation is sometimes very common when it isn't tuned properly. Due to the fact that the EMs parameters are way off from what the stock ECU was running prior to the EM taking control. Usually it is a timing issue because the stock ECU is running fairly high values under low load then when the EM takes over the timing drops 5+ degrees on improperly setup UTECs. This combined with the fact that since the EM has a certain "lag time" when taking control, it results in bad bucking/hesitation. You can even always get a properly tuned UTEC'd car to feel somewhat jumpy(you have to try to do it on purpose) if you hold right where it starts to take control at the specific load point while at part throttle.
But of course, this is all irrelevent since i know nothing about the Legacy or the PP, for that matter!
I hope you figure it out because im looking to buy a legacy and tune it with all my stock STi parts as a daily driver!
Good luck,
Tom

haha i always had the bucking! i knew the worst of it... FWD, and no PP, 1.8ECU. but i THINK ive almost got it ready to run on the legacy ECU finally! hopefully wont buck anymore.

Hey Doug you devil (pun intended),
did you get somewhere with your PP? Did I read that you got on a dyno over at rallitek.
New question, has anyone experienced Haltech engine management. One of my friend who dealt in hydra is going to start working with haltech and he says it is more promising for the earlier subarus.

Well, I have "tuned" a map. All I did was add some fuel at high rpm full load and pull -4 timing down at full load high rpm (basic idea).
And today I drove around and didnt get any hesitation or bucking, and then I did. But I then loaded a slightly different map and it seemed to go away. but I havent really had anytime to play with the maps, and most importantly, I really don't know if I am putting the right numbers in!

Thats exactly what i do and it goes away then comes back. i pretty much put numbers in til the bucking stops. sometimes I drive wit hmy laptop in the passenger seat, when It starts bucking, I hit F4 a few time and it goes away. Then I look for the high spot in the map and smooth out all of the numbers around it.
