Auto up & down -> 1992 SS driver's power window switc

OK. My 1992 Legacy SS has the ultimate in power window control, an automatic up/down switch, for the driver's window. My 94 only has auto down. I'd imagine this decrease in functionality was due to some safety regulation.
However, I do not have kids. I'm not too concerned with someone accidentally getting caught in an automatically-raising window. I want these auto up/down switches on all eight of my windows. And the sunroof. What the hell, why not?
Anyway - does anyone know if the auto up/down window switch is a completely self-contained thing? Would it be possible to get auto up/down 1992 SS driver window switches and replace the other manual switches with them? Or would this just be a huge pain in the ass?

Am I to understand that I'd be the first to do this?
The way the auto up/down switch operates seems to me like it's self-contained and modular. I'm going to look into sources for a 1992 SS driver's power window switch, and see what can be done with it.

Im waiting for 3 new master window switches in the mail, courtesy of Blackbart. Im planning on converting all my windows into auto up/down instead of just the drivers.
Ill let you know.

Nice - got a part number? Know anywhere else they'd be available?
If you take photos, I'll host them for you.

I've got a host.
I'm gonna do a full writeup once I get the parts in this thread.

Yeah, I've been wanting to do just this for a while now, but I've got bigger things to worry about right now. Love that auto up, and I'd love to be able to hit the auto up for all 4 windows.

I had the up/down in my LS and I loved that. I too was wondering if it could be done.
I look forward to the write-up.

yeah, I'd definitely be curious about how things go.
I'd probably just do the passenger front if I were to do it.

Well, got into the driver and passenger doors yesterday, lubed up the window tracks and motor teeth a bit for my tired power windows, and took a good look at the power window switches.
The way I wanted to just drop in auto up/down switches will not be possible. But, if I can get my hands on a spare driver-side window switch bank to experiment with, I can probably replace the IC and give all windows auto up/down, as well as better current sensing so they won't try to push up for long once they hit the end (or an object in the way). Also, I bet I can have a window automatically go back down if it encounters resistance before reaching the top - just in case someone gets caught
I'll just add it to my list... in the meantime I'm on the lookout for a spare bank of driver-side switches to experiment with.

Got my package from Blackbart today containing the switches, and Im gonna say that it can't be done in a way which is worth the results.
It'd require a total redesign of the whole unit.

Well, not a total redesign. Just a complete replacement of the control chip. Which is doable. I should have a switch bank on its way to experiment with.
It may be a while before I'm able to actually do anything with it (my paid work takes precedence, and after that is the LegacEBC) but I foresee offering a $20 mod to anyone with power windows...

The power actuator doesnt fit in the switch locations for the others
