Taking it to the next level...

It's been in the works for a couple weeks, but now it looks official.

I will be waving adios to Toyota of Orlando parts department, and waving hola to Star Mazda Subaru parts department :D

That's right, I'm gonna be working at a Subaru dealership

I filled out the application yesterday, and pissed in a cup today, and if all goes well, Friday will be my last day at Toyota (no they're not going to be happy) and I will start at Subaru Monday.

There's some scheduling that needs to be worked out, as I'm still in school. The guy at Subaru said he's more than willing to work that out with me, but I will still have to choose my classes around that schedule. I will probably be taking some early-morning classes and then going to work, and then possibly going back to class later in the evening. That's fine, as long as I'm taking them.

So... that's right, I can get part numbers. Lots of them. Ask me if you REALLY need to, but unless they pay me extra, I'm not gonna be THE Subaru online parts resource

:D

Thanks guys! The encouragement is heartfelt.

You know what's funny too? With the new schedule that I'll have, I actually had the ability to sign up for two morning classes like I normally would, but I also grabbed an evening class on Mondays that I wouldn't have been able to get with my Toyota schedule. So I'm taking 3 classes this semester, which is awesome.

Well, Star Imports bought the old Classic Mazda/Subaru dealer on South OBT. They didn't buy Classic OUT, Classic just moved out and Star came in right behind em.

Ya know, I am really digging the new Mazda 5's, the "mini-minivans" I call them. They're based off the same platform, but they're taller and roomier. They remind me of the little vans you see running around Europe, so they really appeal to me. So much so that I was almost considering signing my life away on a 5spd one to have as a daily driver and keep my cars to screw around with. But then I thought "I'd be copying Steve"

I know where that is...just north of sandlake Rd. How long will it take you to get there from where you live? Where do you live? Winter Park right?

Unfortunately, it's over twice as far from my house as Toyota is. Toyota is 4 miles and 10 minutes, and Subaru is 10 miles and at least 20 minutes. I live in College Park, which is right next to Winter Park.

If the 5's like the 3 it'll have less torque, no suspension travel, too soft springs, less steering feel, less chassis stiffness, and little ground clearance compared to the Legacy, but it's still a fun car. Interior's definitely nicer, though I doubt it will be as durable.

There's stilll some paperwork so I might not be starting tomorrow...

*subyluvr starts biting his nails*

But I'm constantly being reassured that I'm as good as hired. I've already got two people in that dealership leaving good words for me...

Well, I started yesterday of course...

And wow. It's so easy!!!

Toyota of Orlando is quite simply, the largest new car dealer in Orlando (as far as numbers are concerned). We sell more cars than any other dealer, and our service and parts departments are among the top too. So I was managing the stocking part of a parts department which I'm told does $650k in business a month.

Therefore, when I moved to a parts department that's doing really good if they're doing $100k a month in business, I was quite surprised. (Although once I start ordering parts from them, that'll probably double )

In other words, I ain't doin shit!

The Mazda order comes in on Tue-Thu and the Subaru order comes in on Thu, so I got both Mazda and Subaru orders yesterday. That entire order is about a quarter the size of the Toyota orders I'm used to, and Toyota receives an order everyday.

I also get my own workstation to do these orders in, complete with desk and chair, and I'm allowed to organize it however I wish!

So I'm basically doing about a quarter of the work I was at Toyota, I'm working much more reasonable hours (not till 10:30pm like Toyota)... and I'm getting paid more... ;)

This is working out quite nicely :D
