Most people on here, at least that I know of, rebuild their own turbos.

Yeah, once I found a local turbo shop they sold me an IHI RHB5 rebuild kit for $90. Just make sure you've got a snap ring tool to remove the plate/bearing behind the compressor wheel. This is a good time to hybrid with another compressor, as well.

im interested in doing this aswell but have little experiance with turbos and havent been able to find any good writeups. What kind of tools am i going to need? what about shaft balance? do the bearings have to be pressed at all? how much time would my turbo have to be off my DD?

also what is involved with making a hybrid, what should i look for?

well simply since im not doing a subaru vehicle, its a stock turbo off of my girlfriends 87 toyota turbo 4Runner, the bushings are toast and it really probally needs to be completly gone through.
