Pick up this FREE Legacy Sport Sedan

My friend and fellow Sport Sedan owner ac30treb is on his way over to my house and spots a 91 Sport Sedan on the shoulder of the highway. He stops to check it out and leaves a note under the windshield wiper - "call me if you want to sell this car...."

The guy calls and gives us the following info:

- 1991 Subaru Legacy Sport Sedan
- Dark red, with some rust around the wheel arches.
- Automatic transmission
- 225k miles, although a swapped instrument cluster reads 50k, or 150k, or something.
- Owner reports that the engine is "blown." Smokes, is down on power, but not much else in the way of specific symptoms.
- Recent new windshield.
- Pick it up and it is yours. It is about to be towed off the highway if he can't move it himself. He has a clear title in hand.
- The car is located in/near St. Louis, MO.

Neither Gabe nor I are in a position to get the car- we don't have the time nor the space for more project cars. We suggested legacycentral and the owner asked if we would post it for him.

Email me and I'll give you his telephone number.

I don't know any more about it, so don't ask me any questions!

I appreciate the help in finding this great little machine a home. I totally lucked out when I got this car eight years ago and couldn't have parted with it otherwise.

If you have any suggestions for a newer car that might measure up (auto pref.) - please give me some suggestions, I'm going to the auto auction in Earth City Tuesday to begin my search. I was thinking another Subaru (hopefully) or possibly an Audi A4 - 1.8 turbo / or / Acura, etc. Any thoughts?

Fwd is ... well, fwd so if you don't mind it, then an Acura or whatever would be fine. I caution you on any VW/Audi products, especially the 1.8T. I've had too much experience working on and known too many people with blown engines, electrical problems, etc. not to recommend even a Korean car over them in terms of reliability. The newer Subarus are very much like the older ones, but faster and more upscale, so you may be happiest with that. Used WRXs are pretty cheap, but mind the beat ones.
