It's not that hard, but is some work. You have to swap over the tranny, driveshaft, rear diff, rear shafts, complete rear suspension, gas tank w/fill tube and the shifter. It's just unbolt and bolt.

for some cars from an island, you are looking at a lot of rusty bolts, nearly all of them for that conversion being undercarraige. sounds like a PITA to me.

People are telling you to search because you're asking them to waste lots of their time for no reason. They already spent hours writing this stuff up, at no benefit to themselves, purely as a favor to help people like you.

You want to know if the drivetrain swap is doable? Did you read the thread that is STICKIED right at the top of this very drivetrain forum?
It's called: "Detailed AWD & 5MT Swap Write-up completed"
If you look there, Josh tells you how many man-hours of labor it took, how many months of research it took, and how many weeks his car was out of comission. There's even a parts list and prices for you.

You want to know if the engine swap is doable? Here's one of many threads that talks about it.

Again, it would be cheaper and WAY easier to buy the car you want rather than build it, but everything's doable and lots of people on the board have done it.

You would need to do this (minus the AT to MT, unless you want to)
www.surrealmirage.com/subaru/swap

and this (minus rebuilding, again, unless you want to)

I like to call it "the swap bible."

Oh, its the bible cuz it converts you?? That's the only way, eh?
Well, I never!
You can also just swap the entire wiring, like I did. It really allows for some serious intimacy between man and Legacy. In fact, I almost prefer it to conversion.
