I just got my first crotch rocket. It's a '95 Kawasaki ZX-6. It's red , 6 speed , the tach goes to 14,000 RPM, and the speedo goes to 170 MPH!!! Oh My! What else is there to know? It's really freaking quick and it's only a carburated 600 cc. I can't imagine a turboed Hyabusa or something like that. That's got to be insane.
Anyways, I picked it up for only $2700 after taxes and dealer fees. It's only got 13k on it. Looks like someone laid it down tho, but it's sweet for my first bike.

You sound as excited as I was on my first bike. Enjoy the bike, man but be careful. Take a rider course, don't go beyond your comfort zone, and ride defensively.

Bikes are addictive. I love my Speed Four. If this is your first motorcycle experience, definitely take the MSF course and get proper gear. On a bike, it doesn't take much of a mistake to put the hurt on you.

wear your gear every time you ride too. even 15mph road rash sucks BAD when you are wearing a t shirt, you never know when you will find some gravel or something. ask me how I know
my bike aint exactly a rocket but it does ok for what it is. just finished building it up from a basket case.

That's kind of a lot of miles for a bike, so you may need a lot of regular maintenance, like brakes, a chain (oil it regularly), coolant flush. If it's been laid down take it to a shop and make sure everything is straight and safe. I don’t think that bike has adjustable front preload (maybe though it came out about then) If it does or doesn’t make sure you set the preload for your weight. Front may require shimming the forks. Rear is usually just an adjustment with a spanner. Change the oil in the forks and you might want to have the rear shock recharged especially if the previous owner was heavy.

Find a local crew to go riding with and have fun, I can’t wait for the warm weather so I can drag my rig out

Got my first helmet, a Bell, and a Fog City shield thingy. Works Great! Tried painting the scratched up side. That didn't work out too well, but I didn't expect much with some old standard spray paint. I'm thinking of painting it Flat Red.

Gloss is so overrated.

I spent something like $500 on my helmet alone (SHOEI). Plus, a nice helmet is more comfortable.

I decided to get a textile jacket instead of a leather, and while it's nice in the summer because it's cool, I will probably get a leather jacket this summer. I'll also get real boots and real leather pants. I don't want a 1-peice because I don't track the bike and I don't want to look like a dork.

I intend to get a newer bike in the next year or two, but for now, I really really like my CBR.

I was going to buy a Kawsasaki Ninja 250 for my first bike used, They go for so cheap.

At least I can get my feet Wet with that.

That's a good idea. Some people just don't like to ride, and some people are scared of it.

I got a 600cc as my first bike, and I feel like it was an appropriate move. It wasn't brand new, it had miles, it was inexpensive, and it's not as powerful as the newest generation of 600cc rides.

I'd most likey ride on the weekends, but with the bike so light, its not so fun on the highway.. lol I did alot of research on the bike, my mom hated it!

Maybe I should get into bikes ... every house I look at has two car garages at most and that's Legacy wagon and '84 GL hardtop. I also plan on an Elise in a couple years, so I don't know where that'll go. I could fit four bikes in a two car garage easy and it would cost much less.
