Need to get rid of the u-bed

My bed is toast....I swear if I sleep on the side I'll roll into the middle.
Anyway, I need a new bed, I've been able to rotate/flip the matress and it be alright, but that doesn't work any more. I usually sleep on my side, so I need something that's not a brick, but not too soft.
This matress is a sealy. I liked when I got it. I've had it since 01. I think its worn out too soon, but did like it for the first 2-3 years.
Any suggestions?

The memory foam's only good if you don't move much. I personally move too much. I have a Sealy or something pillow top I've had since 98 and it's still good.

Viscoelastic (the generic term for "memory foams") all the way. Tempur-Pedic and Dormia are both top-notch. There are many different models to suit whatever makes you most comfortable. They're especially well-suited for those who sleep on their sides.
Steve, have you actually slept on a viscoelastic mattress for any significant stretch of time? You have to learn to sleep on them... Most people move in their sleep because they're not comfortable in whatever position they're in on the bed they're on. With viscoelastics that problem is greatly diminished; people just quit moving in their sleep! This is the reason that Dormia and Tempur-Pedic each offer something like a 3-month trial period.
Even if you go with a coil-spring mattress, I'd actually recommend avoiding pillowtops. My distaste for non-firm mattresses aside, the material in the pillowtop wears into a useless layer of fluff long before the mattress itself starts getting worn out.
But I guess a lot of it depends on your build. I put much more stress on a bed than Steve does

. If you're a pretty small person, it doesn't matter a whole lot what kind of mattress you use as long as it's not worn out.
Definitely go mattress shopping. Go to several stores and try the mattresses out. Lie on each mattress for at least five minutes and see how it feels.

No, I've only laid on a tempurpedic for a couple hours. My sister has one. I sleep on my stomach, though, so I'm not sure it would work for me anyway. The pillows don't, in fact I only use nearly flat pillows. I move in my sleep occasionally due to 'dreams'. Yeah, Vikash and I would be on different ends of the mattress spectrum! Guess that's why I never noticed the pillow top to be that deteriorated

. I actually got it on sale at a grand opening.
There are no springs to 'help' you with the viscoelastics either as I think Art may've mentioned a while ago. Maybe the hybrid ones?

Yeah... so you haven't given one a real chance. But, yeah, if you're moving in your sleep because of stuff going on in your head a viscoelastic mattress or pillow probably won't work so well (though sleeping more comfortably can sometimes help with that too -- there is a causality loop in there); it takes a minute or so for the material to conform to a new shape. Sleeping on your stomach is still compatible with viscoelastics though.

I used to actually have a bed like that, cept it was a memory foam version I got off a friend fo cheep.( I think he paid $4500 for it, and the reclining feature was rather nice while eating twinkies and watching Jerry Springer)
Was the most comfortable thing I've ever been on, and I sleep on me tummy too!
My GF and I just bought some 2500 "super matress" The kind "Kelly" doesnt spill the glass of wine whilst jumping on it.

Its nice I suppose, but the MF was the best sleep I ever been gotten.
Uh HeeuK!

I'm not a fan of the memory foam myself... they are WAY expensive too.

Mine currently is pillow top....
I'd like to try a memory foam one, as I think the principle behind them and how they work, would work well for me. I do move around a little bit, but as you pointed out Vikash, it's due to not being comfortable.
I need to just get out there and lay on matresses. I just don't have time
I need to call up the one Marriot hotel I stayed at in Baton Rouge....I'd kill for those matresses!!

I loved the memory foam mattress that Art got a couple year ago. I slept better on it than I've ever slept before in my life. Art had quite a bit of trouble sleeping on the memory foam mattress because he sleeps on his stomach with his leg kicked out. The problem was that his body would sink into the mattress and his leg(with less weight) would not, and it would tweak his back. On my(the now spare) bed, I have a memory foam mattress topper that I absolutely adore, once again, it's very ncie, though one of my roommates would rather sleep on the couch than in my bed. He says it "wierds him out"

Is that the bed I crashed on while I was there?
If so it was MEGA comfy...of course when I went to pass out on New Years I am pretty sure the comfortableness of the bed was not my main thought
