Looks good. I had my GReddy 60mm Boost gauge in a similar setup on my old SS. I actually mounted it to the steering column, because it was way too deep to fit in the cluster surround.

Not sure how much I like it during the day but it looks awesome at night.

Honestly, I think it looks terrible. Great placement of all the gauges, it's an amazing idea, but I don't like how much they stick out. I'm sure there's no better way to mount them flatter though.

As having done my gauge and knowing there's really not a great place for gauges in our cars.....you did an excellent job with placement.

Laurel, I see what your saying (though “terrible” is a harsh word… and here I thought we had this love thing going ), but let me defend my work a little, well not really defend but explain my approach.

I’m trying to build a drivers car and function rules over form, not that function cant look good too, but it must come first… no poser fluff pep boys shit here! Ha Ha. First design requirement: no performance mods with out instrumentation, and I consider what I have now the bare minimum. Second design requirement: all gauge information must be readable at a glance in ONE location. This is the best arrangement I found that satisfied both primary requirements and I like the way it looks… so there you stinky poopy head. The depth flattens out a lot from the drives position, if the boost gauge wasn’t so deep I could have inset them a little more, but all and all it came out just about how I envisioned it… From an artistic point of view (the from part) I kinda like the depth from the side, it adds a little drama to the dash.

I was just looking at the pics I posted and they really dont show the mounts very well, the tubes go through the clear lens. Here's a pic during construction.



BTW the "tubes" are machined from 2" PVC pipe. The dash was bored with a reground hole saw (for a tight fit with the pipe) with the surround and lens jigged up in the mill... gotta love tools.

I think it looks more integrated that way... and besides they had to, the back of the boost gauge is less than an 1/8" off the tach needle.

Not bad in the day, But at night it looks to confusing, to much green IMO though . Personaly functionalty wise, i think a-pillar gauges are way easier to read, and peek at under WOT conditions

I love it! Slick instal. Looks like a lot of work. I'm going to mount mine to the column like 'mouse ears' so that they sit in line of the center of the tach and speedo also. I'm trying to find a third gauge I can fit in the center of my steering wheel, too, but the damn center nut reduces the depth just too much. I may be able to put in a spacer.

Hopefully you're not going to be parking your car in west seattle.

That's why my boost gauge is mounted inside the 1.5 din pocket.

The green is just light, all I’m looking for is the direction of the little red pointers… gauges aren’t really about what the numbers say, they’re about learning where they point when everything is normal so you will take note when things are off. In a lot of race cars they are rotated so that they all point straight up under normal conditions.

Personally I think A-pillar gauge mounts are about showing people outside the car that you got “mods”.

Gary, I disagree heartily about what you're saying about A-pillars.

I know I dont have a ton of experience, but when I was autocrossing on saturday, I had NO idea how fast I was going, or what my water temps were at, or how much fuel I had while I was racing

But I knew exactly how much I was boosting.

The boost gauge, mounted on the A-pillar, was the only gauge that was close enough to my center of vision that I could read it.

That is fuckin sick!

i just bought a gauge package (water temp, oil psi, and ammeter) and i was just wounder where the best place for these things to hook up to on the motor.
if any one has any pictures or could help me (link to a thread i missed?) in any way that would be awesome

Speaking of custom dash installs here is one that I did on my GSX. This is the only way I would integrate them in the dash if I could do them like I did here. I had many hours getting this to work.

An autometer fuel level gauge will go in the remaining spot. I will most likely change over to some kind of black gauge but this was just for a mockup to see if it would all work.
