Color of tachometer output wire

Ok, I am trying to wire up this hks super afr I have and I hooked it up to what I thought was the tachometer output wire but the thing wont read the rpm. Does anyone know what color the tachometer output wire is? I hooked it up to one that was red and blue.

Either I am reading the ECU pinout wrong out there is something wrong with the connection or the afr. Can someone help me out?

Or could someone explain to me how to head the pinout? The one I am looking at is at http://www.graphics.cornell.edu/~v/ecupins/

I am so confused...

Well, looking at the wiring diagram I have, its Black. From the instument cluster to the ECU, that is.

Does that diagram work for a 91 turbo?

The wiring diagram is from a 1992 service manual. The wiring wouldnt have changed.

Well the only black wire I see that is on the connector that the tachometer output should be on isnt on the end like my diagram says it is. Although there is a darker blue/black one.

This is the wiring diagram I have. It shows the colors of all the wires as well.

hey legacy777, when you me wire 16, is that count from left to right?

Also, is that looking at the end of the connector where the wires come out or looking into the connector where the holes are that connect to the ecu?

If you could tell me this might help clear everything up.

Look at this
http://www.graphics.cornell.edu/~v/ecupins/

That diagram is showing the ECU. It also shows which is the correct connector.

You can compare it to this pic

I actually stumbled onto a thread where you gave links to those. That first link is the pinout I am reffering to.

I am wondering though, should I look at the connectors like they would be if I plugged them into the ecu from the wire side?

Black with a blue stripe.

Look at the connectors so that they -- all four of them -- look like my chart.

Thanks vrg, I think I found all the wires I need.

Ok, I have decided to wire everything from the engine bay and run it in through the firewall instead of near the ecu because a broken wire is easier to replace in the engine bay.

But now I am still confused, because when I look at the ECU pinout vrg has so graciously provided to us and then compare it to the wire connecting to the ECU it doesnt seem right.

What I mean is, the ground wire to the map sensor is red, shouldn't it be black or red/black?? And the 2 wires coming out of the MAP are neither black nor white but 2 multi colored wires.(yellow/green and yellow/red)

Should I just go with the diagram?

Those colors are correct; you can also refer to the factory service manual's pinouts and wiring diagrams.

You're looking at the pressure exchange solenoid under the hood, not the pressure sensor.

You can also refer to these:

http://www.graphics.cornell.edu/~v/chrysler_map/ (especially the part at the top)
http://www.graphics.cornell.edu/~v/fcd/ (especially the installation instructions)

Oh, so thats the solenoid not the map sensor itself? Is the MAP sensor the thing thats below the pressure exchange solenoid?

Thanks vrg, now I can have confidence when splicing into other wires.

Yup, the sensor is below and outboard of the pressure exchange solenoid. See the first picture on my page about using Chrysler parts.

Yep, so then I'd wire in the FCD to that, not the pressure exchange solenoid. Thanks for the info ;-)

Yup. Read my FCD installation instructions for a little more detail. I would recommend you put it under the dash rather than under the hood though.

Yeah, definately, I'll just get some velcro pads to attach it to something.

But I don't need to wrry about it because I need to put in my HKS AFR first
