This is going to be violent....

Since the tranny is out of the car, I might as well change out the clutch. My Exedy stage1 has some beef left on it, but it couldn't hurt.

So I'm going to toss in a stock WRX flywheel in place of my Exedy Lightweight bit.

And I'm going to install one of these with my Exedy pressure plate...

ACT's 4-puck unsprung disc.

It'll be violent as shit, but I should be able to put the hurtin on the asphalt.

I haven't ordered it yet, but I'm tempted. I have driven a Clutchmasters 4-puck sprung clutch before and I actually LOVED that. I don't know how bad the 4 puck will be with an unsprung hub.

Doug - Where do you get your Kennedy 6-pucks? I might look into one of those too.

Once I decide on a clutch, Legacy Burnout video for sure!

is where I got the disc for $99. Ask for Chris Reial (?).

But..... I don't know if the Kennedy disc is willing to take the power you may be putting down.

Contact them directly at

Really? What kind of power could they handle?

How is an unsprung hub? The only unsprung clutch I've ever driven is a clutchmasters stage 5 in a civic.

I really don't know what the max power they would claim to hold, but I got an email from them once and they didnt really want to claim more than 220 or so whp for the disc I got. But then again, it seems they are selling some discs for motors that make for than that. Thats why I would go again and talk to them (Kennedy) personally and see what they think.

A subaru disc would be make to order by installing the center hub to match our tranny splines.

They only break the tranny if you are drop shifting or mis shiffting.

Phil - Are you switching to the OEM WRX flywheel just because you think you'll need the extra rotational inertia to get the car rolling with a really harsh clutch without peeling out?

Jeremy - Yeah, but Phil's putting in a transmission that'll be very hard to break.

Vikash - Mostly right. A heavier flywheel helps prevent bogging off the line. Lots of RWD dragers do that. Heavy flywheel and launch where you make lots of torque.

The tranny shouldn't break. If it does, I'll get something stronger :)

And yes, I AM a nut! Steve, as long as your there, you'll get a ride :)

I am totally willing to accept that fact. I probably will break axles at some point.
