There are tons of those kits on ebay. Since I'm putting my IC behind the headlights, with the turbo on a rotated mount, a Subaru kit would do me no good. If I need a bend or two, thats fine, but I'm not gonna pay a shop $75+ an hour to do the whole thing.

Mounting behind the headlights for packaging purposes and keeping pipe length down?

hipercoat. hpc was the only company that was willing to clean the pipes as well as coat them inside out other than pilkington. pilkington charged the same amount to clean and powerder coat as hpc did to hiper coat. powdercoat liquifies at 400 degrees so pilkington recomended me not to use it for a turbo aplication. hipercoat doesnt even begin to break a sweat unitl 1800 degrees and stresses at 2000 degrees. it comes in many different colors but i got teh cheapest which "poloished aluminum"

it costs 12 dollars a foot for outside and 14 dollars a foot for inside out plus cleaning fees. average wrx pipe length is 12-15 feet. 12 for the txs greddy or aps adn 15 for blitz jdm. mine were 12 feet to the tee. 220 there abouts was my bill

Phil- Exactly. Since my lower radiator support is pretty mangled, I'm gonna replace it and move it back a little and use the thin SPAL fans to make the radiator fit. My AC was toast after I hit that deer a year and a half ago so I have no condensor either. There is room to notch out behind the headlights to make the pipes fit through. So with the size of my intercooler, it should be a nice fit back there, and eventually I'll mold some ducting to look like a grill with some sort of mesh across the front of it. Also, I'm getting rid of the vertical support with the latch and just going with two hood pins. It should be pretty stealth.

I also want to keep the IC up high since I'm known to get a little ballsy in the snow and kiss a few banks. :wink:

Dan, you constantly impress me with your mod ideas and knowledge to back them up. Cheers.

P.S. Don't forget to make a carbon hood ;)

Officially in posession of my Front Mount now.

Size:

Core = 26" long, 9.5" tall, 3.75" thick.
With end tanks = 34.5" long, same height and thickness.

2.5" inlet and outlets.

I'm going to get some Radiator Paint and spray a thin coat over the intercooler, just for stealthiness.

Hmm... I can't seem to find the measurements I took of mine. It's an Izuzu truck intercooler, not sure exactly what year / model it was from (got it from eBay for $80), I estimate it to be a bit longer than two Saab 900 ICs side by side plus the endtanks, a little taller than the Saab 900, maybe 2.5" thick, with 2.5" inlet/outlet.

Made the pipes from 2.5" exhaust with some press bends (7' of pipe w/5 90 degree bends = $35), hacking up lots of 2.5" truck radiator formed hoses for couplers, and a few silicone couplers (~$100). I wasted quite a few formed hoses that I couldn't return after hacking up, but they weren't used in the final setup, so I suppose there was about $40-50 of wastage in this fashion. I just picked up hoses I thought I could make use of so I'd be able to handle whatever challenges the install presented. Not too bad IMO.

Had to space the headlights and side markers out slightly, held tight in place with mechanic's wire. Grill had to be completely butchered on the back end but I was able to keep the Subaru emblem mount intact. I like the unique look my front end has.

Still have to further modify the front fascia once I've got a shop again (give 'er some speed holes) so's the whole front face of the IC gets direct airflow. But for now there's still plenty of air moving past it, and plenty of clearance between the IC and radiator/condensor (I could easily fit two 7" IC puller fans in there if I wanted, and I do have one to experiment with...)

Too bad I had already wasted $80 on a Saab 900 TMIC and $50 on a WRX hoodscoop and air diverter, I'm not springing for a new hood for a stock scoop; the chimney's got a nice vent. (My glass is half full, yo)

I thought about a WRX TMIC because I have one that came with the car. But after researching the topic on the forum I want to do a FMIC. My plans are to go with a Evotion intercooler dimensions 20.5" x 9.3" and a Greddy universal ic piping kit. I don't really trust E-bay parts too much I've seen some really poor quality stuff. I will post pics and let you guys know my progress.
