Yep; tom petty, the doors, bob dylan, johnny cash, queen, etc. I like most classic rock.

Tusk is great because it has our marching band in a lot of the versions.

then I also like rap and a lot of other stuff. The cure, de la soul, wu-tang clan, 2pac, the roots, mos def... I'll even listen to some country.

What I don't like is pop music these days. A lot of the rap really pisses me off. It's not even rap. It's fucking little John saying "yeah" and a bunch of shit about how rich they are.

How can you not like older music with the state of current shit?

I used to listen to mostly '60's music, but hardly anymore. I like everything from blues to industrial metal. Too may bands to list.

Only if you ever listened to them on the radio. They put out five amazing albums, at least three of which had multiple hits.

With all the crap on the radio now, I often get knocked for my like of older music. I can't get enough of bands like AC/DC, Aerosmith, Santana, James Taylor, etc. All my friends laugh when I turn my radio to the old stuff.

But, I like current rock too. Just none of that rap shit.

They're laughing because it's James Taylor. :P

He was good in Two Lane Blacktop.

Well, there's two sides to both of these genres. I hate the heavy metal screaming shit. But I don't mind stuff like "Presidents of the United States". I don't really like "Hip Hop" or any of the junk they play on the radio, but there's some very good rap out there that I can appreciate.

Now that's my kind of music... if you like Pink Floyd, Yes, and Genesis, you should also check out some of the earlier King Crimson (it's a bit more avant-garde though) and basically all Rush.

I'm also a big fan of New Wave -- Tears for Fears, Depeche Mode, The Church, The Police, Peter Gabriel (of Genesis fame), New Order, etc. Of the newer stuff, I basically only listen to techno/trance and some lighter alternative bands (e.g. Remy Zero, Our Lady Peace).

Bothell, eh? Have we met you yet?

Okay, well, to give you an idea of the rock I like, I can tell you what's in my cd player right now:
Staind - dysfunction
Outkast - big boi and dre present
Soundgarden - a sides (last group album)
Audioslave - out of exile
Brotha lynch hung ft mc eiht - the new season

Hah, the new lynch would make manarius wet himself. Jason, just admit you're not hardcore enough (yet) for real gangsta shit.

Modern rap has lost a step, I'll agree; but there are still plenty of good real artists who make their own beats, and have their own feel to their rhymes. I think most everyone else buys their beats from Dre.
lynch and mc eiht is definitly a combination that I see working. They're talking real stories, and westside at that.
By contrast, there's JD and dem Franchise Boys, commercial rappers by name --obviously-- who can buy some good beats, and talk all the way thru it about this and that, girls, weed, money and cars. I think of it more as the party music kinda rap. Its just something to have a good time with, doesn't gotta be special or mean anything.

But don't think I like backpack rappers like kan-gay west. If I wanted to get preached at, and lectured, I'd goto college. Aint teachin' me nothin' anyway.

And 50. . . Well, 50's somewhere in between. Some his raps are real, and some of them are just for goodtymin'. I won't pass up on him yet. :/

There's no competing with Pac. Always will be the best. His cadence is incredible and soulful.

White rappers. . . Ummmm. . . Iunno, em's lost a step, for real. Have you heard his last hit? Talking bout when he's gone? I think he's gonna end up literally dead in the next 9mos. Maybe a year, but something will happen.
Lil' wyte, who started with the triple six mafia has some good steps behind him, and he might stay real, but that remains to be seen.

That's all I got for defending rap now.
