URGENT!! Strut ?

Fianlly got all my parts together and a warm dry place to work and things don't seem to be going well. I started on the rear with AGX 733011 and am putting '99RS springs with tops, etc from '97 OBS. I used the spring compressors to remove the tops and such from the OBS, but there is no need for the comp on the RS springs. There's not even any pressure on the coil with everything bolted together. I realise the weight of the car will compress the unit once its in but its all so loose right now that it won't stay lined up long enough to put in. Any help is appreciated! Hit me here or better yet on my cell- 970-376-3732. I'll be scratching my head in the garage...

Thanks!!

Well, I've never tried this setup, hopefully somebody will reply who has.

But, it doesn't sound ok. Yes, the weight of the car will hold thing together, but you wouldn't want to go over a bump, unload the suspension, and have he spring fall out of place. If you already have the old struts out of the car, you can hold the new one in place and see the steering knuckle can actually drop low enough to let that happen.

The SS uses the same strut part number as the RS IIRC, so things should have bolted up.

Yeah, I mean I used the RS part number AGX's on my car and everything was fine (I was using stock SS springs and top hat and everything). Spring was not loose - it was compressed pretty good by the strut.

And I guess Phil's right, presumably the RS part number AGX's (if that's what he has) should work fine with stock RS springs! Weird. Maybe something weird with OBS top hats.

You didn't put front springs on the back or something silly like that, did ya?

OK, so I got everything sorted and mounted up on the car. Works fine, rides way stiffer. The springs were labeled wrong front to back. I guess Matt was having a dyslexic day. Oh well, minor setback. Gotta love having access to a hoist and air tools. I got the whole thing done in 4 hours. Anyone need some factory '91 sedan struts with 35k miles?
