2 Wheel Dyno

Unfortunally, the only 4 wheel dyno is quite a trek from here. The shop where Im going to be doing my build only has a 2-wheel, so Im wondering if there's any *safe* way to dyno our cars on a 2wd dyno?
Disconnect the driveshaft?
FWD fuse? (apparently this puts strain on the diff?)
Disconnect the axels?
I know its not going to be accurate, but its mostly to see if the car is running well, and for tuning. I'll take it up to the 4WD place once the basic tuning is done.

FWD fuse...but you're not supposed to be driving the car hard on FWD.

Yea I dont want to do anything thats going to damage the car

then don't put it on a 2 wheel dyno.

Well that's my question, Laurel. Is there any way to do it without damaging the car. I don't think I could have stated it much more clearly.
If the answer is no, then it's no.

Well then simply, the answer is no. You have a AWD car, and it wasn't meant to be tested on a 2WD dyno.
Besides, why waste the WHP of those other two wheels. And...I don't know if I'd want to use a dyno as a method of tuning. There have to be better methods.

This is why I'd waste the extra WHP
$200-$300 in travel expense alone.
Looks like for tuning, it's gonna be a lot of highway pulls at 4am

13 hours? F^ that! Get a g-tech and be happy with that.

Well the Autronics SMC that Im putting on will give live horsepower/torque ratings, but the initial setup would really go a lot smoother in a controlled environment, vs flying down the highway at 60mph trying to look at readings on an 8" screen

How the HELL does it take 13 hours to go 211 km??!?!?!?!
btw...get a wideband O2...it is pretty much vital for tuning

How about jackstands on the dyno?

There's an ocean, a mountain range and a major metropolitan center in the way.

A good street tune is better then a dyno tune anyways.

I know some people that have inserted the FWD fuse and dyno'd the car on a 2-wheel dyno.
I wouldn't recommend you do that....but it has been done.

Swap in a 5MT FWD tranny

MCarp22 on Nasioc did the FWD fuse thingy...on a mustang dyno...my heart is too sad to give you the results

Kelly, you were running an SMC, right?
Can you give me a run down on what components you were using with it, and a copy of your map?

I am with DLC a 5speed 2wd swap would only take like 2 or 3 hours
and they are cheeeeep so slam the gears and not care

We just completed a 5-speed, Front-wheel-drive, straight cut dogbox.

+1
I'd rather spend a day driving out to the 4WD than switch to a FWD tranny

correct me if i am wrong but....
wouldn't you get a higher WHEEL horsepower number?
and the words "bake show" come to mind. you could just melt those poor tires.
AND want to drop about 200 pounds go from AWDauto to FWD5speed

no, you probably wouldn't get a higher readng...at least MCarp22 over on Nasioc didn't...82 whp on the dyno with the fuse in. I just don't think the fuse thing is meant to transfer all the power to the front diff, it's really not made for normal use.

I agree,... if you put a fuse in the FWD plug in your AWD engine bay you will get NO GAIN if anything you get LESS power
i think mark misunderstood me,
If you have a 22t AWD AUTO and put it on an allwheel dyno you get "X" as you WHEEL horsepower number.
If you have a 22t FWD 5 speed and put it on a 2 wheel dyno you get a number GREATER then "X" as you WHEEL horsepower number
a?
