Well I just bought another 90 for $500. PO put in a 92-94 turbo tranny by accident and fried the center clutch. My question would be can the center clutch be replaced without rebuilding the whole tranny? It seems to shift very well, just no power going to the back and very poor acceleration off the line. It drives great above 2500 rpm. Car has 187K but the int/ext look more like 8K. Also has a rebuilt motor. Would anyone be interested in the tranny as I will not be using it. I will most likely be getting a JDM EJ20G/AT front clip(probably 89-93 Leg turbo) to throw in there. Anyone know what years have the 4.11 on the 4eat? Thanks.

You can replace the center diff without removing the transmission from the car.
But you better know what your doing....

Judging from his nickname, and the fact that he's done what he's done, it's not a task I would reccomend.

Well actually, the joke's on you. PO= previous owner. I bought the car knowing what the PO did. I've been tearing apart and rebuilding Subarus for about six years now. Converting an SVX to 5 spd is just one of the feathers in my hat. There is very little that I can't do to a Subaru. Having said that, I would not attempt to play around inside any automatic, let alone a 4eat.

Yup! What a cherry it turned out to be. Were you the one that offered him $300 w/o the stereo and tires?

I just stumbled upon this thread. I may be interested in this trans provided everything besides the center diff is good.
Shoot me a PM regarding how much you'd want for it. I'd most likely pick it up rather than have it shipped.

90-91 USDM 4EAT's are 4.11 Geared.
After that, I think they're 3.90.

Well, the car basically stopped driving and it turned out to be a stroke of luck. When I went to put a wrench on the crank pulley bolt so I could position the TC to FP bolts for removal, the crank bolt bolt was barely hand tight. I could have lost that bottom end in a matter of miles. But the tranny was such that it couldn't even get the car out of my driveway anymore. So I gave it to a scrap metal guy.

That sucks that you just bought it. Thanks for being honest and not trying to sell it to me.
