on my way to school.

I was driving on this twisty road with ditches on both sides. I went around a corner and a bald eagle took off from one of the ditches and flew right in front of my car. Whoa.

Had you caught him in your hoodscoop, you'd have to post this on the STi board and enter your car in the "Killed a bird" thread.

I'm fucking glad I didn't hit him. Too much paperwork, and he was a big fucker

That would have to be some kind of world record; worst way to kill a bald eagle.
Subaru might hold the record for most animals killed with hood ornament. :)

A Bald Eagle won't fit into a scoop too well. That'd be like hitting a small dog.

Those damned things are all over the place here. They're only second to seagulls in line at the farm garbage piles. :-D

At least tourists seem to like going to look at them so I guess they're good for the local economy and all that.

On the Squamish River just north of Vancouver some 2500 Bald Eagles winter there each year.

Sometime a few winter off of Point Grey, a headland within the harbour of Vancouver.

Last summer when paddling the Thomson River one swooped down just in front of the canoe and caught a fish.

As far as their federal status is they are considered "threatened", they are only locally endangered or common depending on where you live. But they are all still protected (us not sure about canada) and carry crazy fines for messing with them.
