Finally swapping to manual!?!?

I've been dancing around this for a while, but it seems that I may now actually have the opportunity. A friend of mine has a manual from a '95 or '96 Legacy. My question is, what parts will I need to do the swap other than the tranny itself. I am currently in a '94 SS 4EAT.

Have you read Josh's writeup in the library?

read the write up like 5 times at least, paying very close attention. I tried to and there were still things I missed and ended up bothering josh about.

I'll check it...quick question. Is it possible for me and a friend to do in his garage?

If you can handle changing out a tranny, you should be able to convert AT to MT. There isn't much more to it than swapping the tranny. Pedals and shifter are very straightforward.

very cool thx. The tranny I have sourced right now is from a '95 or '96 Impreza...which means I need a 3.9 diff...perhaps I could get an LSD to make it worth the effort.

I did mine in an exposed driveway with a pretty good slant to it in the middle of january in 20deg.+high winds, with a floor jack and bolted to it a custom made tranny cradle. had help pulling the 4eat but installed 5mt by myself. went pretty smooth, just time consuming with no air tools.

If other people have done this, Id be interested in seeing mini-writeups, or ammendums to Joshs
