So my rear pads are finally in need of replacement. I've been running the Mintex 1114 pads that came with my turbo rear brake upgrade. I've also been extremely happy with these pads and would like to get another set. I've done some searching and I know that the Bobcats and Axxis are also favored but I'd like to stick to these because I already know them and happy with them.

So who knows of a good place to pick these up? Thanks guys.

As for sources.....I'm really not sure any more. Mike Shields @ SPD Tuning is where I got them, however I had heard he was closing up shop and retiring at some point. Whether that's happened, I don't know.

I sent SPD an email asking about the 1155's and their response I feel is applicable to others than just me and so I'm putting it out there -

We have gone away from the 1155 these days. I used to import these as they
were at one time the only really good pad. We now offer the Axxis Ultimate
pad, which I do have in stock. $39.79, and a modest shipping expense.

Here is the skinny. Over the last ten years, Sachs (Germany) has purchased
Mintex (UK) and Axxis (Australia). Mintex still provides vast quantities of
pads to the OEM manufactures in the UK and Europe, but the US market is
being done by Axxis organization. The technologies are interchanged between
Axxis and Mintex. OK?

Second point is that newer compounds and manufacturing process have allowed
a compound with superior heat range, from dead cold to your wife having long
ago asked you to slow down, and equally important, a less abrasive structure
for smoother performance and better rotor wear. So I no longer sell the 1155
Mintex. The Axxis Ultimate is less expensive, has better friction qualities
and is less abrasive on the rotors.

If you would like to order a pair, just call me on 310 344 4578, or better
yet, just email me in two separate emails, your cc number. Along with that I
will need your home address, a phone number, the little three digit number
on the back of the card and the expire date. Dividing the information up is
orders of magnitude safer and not a worry.

Let me know if you have additional questions. You will like the Axxis set,
and all SPD customers are using these as their road car set. For racing only
we use either Hawk or Mintex compounds still, but they are not suitable for
street use, at all.

So it looks like I'm going to be looking at the Axxis. Time to go back and do some searching for opinions on the Axxis and the Hawks. I do work my brakes pretty hard when I'm driving but I don't really race my car as hard as I used to so I don't want a complete racing pad but I did like those 1155's an awful lot. Though I'm searching, if anyone feels compelled to give an opinion they're welcome .

I haven't run the ultimates. I've run the metal masters and they were alright. I've had some friends run the ultimates and were pretty happy with them. Their only real complaint was brake dust.

I couldn't tell you what the friction qualities are between the 1155's & Ultimates are, but I'd probably recommend the Ultimates over a race only type pad. For the cost, the Ultimates are a really good deal. Do some homework, and see what others have to say, and if you find good feedback go with the ultimates. NASIOC is bound to have a fair amount of comments.

When I finally go through the 1155's that are on the front, I'll probably look into the bobcats a little bit or see what's out at that time. I had been happy with the correspondence I've had with the guys at carbotech.

Well I didn't do a whole terribly lot of research and went ahead and ordered some of the Axxis Metal Masters. They should be in soon and I'll give a run down on them. I know I jumped the gun a little on things but I don't really have a lot of time to research and I really didn't want to let my rears go much longer without being replaced... they hit the squeallers last week to which I pulled the pad and clipped the tab shorter... but I'd feel like a complete jackass if I let the pads get down to rivets, hence the quick order.

I'll let you all know how they do. If I'm not happy with them I'll have some extra money in summer to switch out pads... likely try out the bobcats.

So did you order the metal masters or ultimates?

I don't know if you can get ultimates for our car. I haven't ever seen them.

I ordered the metal masters. Is there a big difference?

They should be here by the 11th, or so says the email I got from IPS.

You should be able to get ultimates for our cars if you can get them for the early imprezas....I haven't looked, so I don't know.

Lee, I haven't run the ultimates, so I can't tell ya how much of a difference there is. I'd say just try them out and see how you like them.

I've got ultimates, they came from napa. There was a trick to ordering them, they're not listed as ultimates in the order form... i forgot what the details were though

Well I got them put on yesterday and while I haven't completely laid into them to the point of locking tires (letting them bed in a tad more first, and yes, I did do a proper initial break in) I have been pleased. They seem to have more initial grab but feels like I have to press harder than before to get them to continue to clamp down. Though they are definately nice and quiet. Once I've run them a little more I'll report back on their ultimate grip and dusting qualities.

Scott, do you think you do some memory scanning and maybe figure out a few of the details? I'd be curious and I may still change them out this summer.
