so ive had my 91 turbo leggy now for 3+ years and its been the most fenominal car ive owned. ive raced it at the strip, rally crossed the crap out of it, loaned it to rallitek, and traveled side ways in the snow as much as in a straight line. i just drove it down to tahoe and san fran from portland without a hitch (except the smelly hippie person off craigslist rideshare) and on friday she took us up to timberline for an awsome day of riding. on the way back just off of HI26 on palmquist road the unthinkable happened. i was shifting from 2nd to 3rd, casually i might add, and a load bang from the transmission housing followed by a metalic thud, thud, thud. i pulled off the road and let the car idle still making the sound while i looked underneith. i couldnt see anything and turned the car off. soon enough some cool aaa tow drivers were hoisting her onto the flatbed and bringing us to rallitek. here shes slept over the weekend untill thismorning. kellys diagnosis was a new tranny. this is the least i could do for such a great car thats taken my friends and i wherever, whenever, without fail. so if anyone knows of a resionably priced wrx or legbo turbo tranny in the vacinity please let me know. i havnt read into it yet but i think the wrx will fit. thanks for reading my post.

WRX will fit if you get the rear diff from it also.
That, or swap rear-sections so you have a 1:1 center diff.
You also need to accomidate for the starter bolt.
If you can swing it, a beefed up tranny is a good idea. Call us for that.

Don't use a WRX tranny, they are junk. I changed my Legacy over to a JDM 4.11 Turbo tranny, and absolutely love it, and the whole conversion cost me less than $600.

WRX trannies aren't junk. In fact, the gears in an 2003.5+ are wider than any non-STi tranny. The synchro engagement hub changed over the years (to favor smoothness over durability), but those don't often break unless you are shifting like you shouldn't be.
Glass? Yea, all Subaru trannies are pretty weak. The 03.5+ trannies are the best non-sti trannies to date though.
The 4.11 trannies tend to seem stronger, because the final drive reduces load on the gear.
