Happy 4/20!
Cuz, you know, April 20th was the date that Louis Pasteur completed his first test of what is now known as pasteurization, which has made modern food and drink as transportable and storeable as it is.

Ok, it is Saturday. I was wondering what kind of events are going on around here. I haven't heard of anything in particular. I remember there used to be concerts and other activities. I saw Traffic one year at the Mann in Philly, the hippies trashed that place

I always thought that was ironic. It seems that Earth Day needs a shot in the arm or something. But, I guess it's better to have a cohesive message than a party.

It was a subtle and dry attempt at humor... too much perhaps...
Scott got the idea though ;.

There's some sort of display on campus today, including a 7' pipe made from ventilation piping.

Oh, we all should participate in Earth Day.
Avoid flatulent foods so you don't contribute to the methane layer

I got my Nevada Drivers License and registered my Toyota pickemup yesterday, so I've got 4/20 all over my official papers
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/420_%28cannabis_culture%29
I did not know it was also Hitler's birthday. And Mohammed's??? How odd... his followers are the last I'd expect to be celebrating on 4/20, although I'm sure it's a wee bit different...

On your official papers... noice.
You know what I've discovered since I've moved here? Like, nobody in Ohio has any idea what 420 is. Even hardcore bakers. It's weirding me out. And I don't even really know how to explain it, so I just point them to the Wikipedia article.
I ended up celebrating by baking... literally. I made chocolate chip cookies. I melted the butter so it would soak into the flour, and I worked the dough for a long time to get some gluten going. They were chewy. Ima try breadmaker flour next time. We ate them and watched Harold & Kumar while drinking Fitzgerald Floats (Edmund Fitzgerald is a locally brewed Porter). It was fun.

That's awesome Chris, I hadn't thought of that idea.
Sorry to hear of your let-downs V. I don't know how you would explain that to them. But then again I thought it was a completely universal thing. Like I feel an odd sense of satisfaction and unity when I hit that magical time of the day and I know that heads around the east are all doing the same thing.
And awesome choice in movies. 'ah I forgot my phone', 'should we go back', 'no... we've come too far'. One of those classics that will probably never make true classic status
