Opinions wanted about heat wrap, underhood temps

Hi guys,

I'm seriously thinking about heat-wrapping my exhaust. Any opinions or experiences with this? I would do everything in the engine compartment if I can, from the exhaust manifold to the downpipe.

This is what I would get:

The goal is to lower underhood temps because rallycross involves a lot of idling in line and barbequeing the top mount interHEATER.

I also have an STI IC sprayer on the way, but heat wrap comes soon after that.

About this purported damage due to moisture cracking... do ya think that frequent undercarriage washes are a no-no with heat wrap or is it no biggy? My undercarriage always needs a good scrubbing after a rallycross and that's not the only thing

Have you considered ceramic coatings. Try searching for Tech Line Coatings, there should be some posts here or try their website techlinecoatings.com for info.

I don't think ceramic coating is right for me for a few reasons, but let me know if you disagree.

First, I want some cheap and quick. If it only lasts a year or two that's ok. Second, my piping is 15 years old and caked in burnt-on filth from rallycrosses. Third, I have a lot of piping to do here (manifolds, cross pipe, up pipe, downpipe)

You should clean that filth off of the exhaust no matter what you choose to do so that point is moot.

I vote for Crucial's porting, polishing, and coating. Add in a crucial uppipe, and you're all set.

Sam -

Jalow loved heat wrap. He said he actually noticed gains from it, and you know how he is.

I'd vote to recommend a heatwrap.

Hardy, do you work for Crucial now?

Yes, they are quite a group over there. We've dealt with them a bit.
