time for a rebuild...

Hey guys I was wondering if you could point me into the right direction for this... I've been pulling the engine out of my G/F 95 legacy L AWD 4eat, the motor is shot I belive..It has 170,000 on it and she use to beat the living crap out of it until one day it woulden't go forward. The engine will idle but no matter how much you you give it throttle It won't rev up.... Tranny is fine and full of fluid....(but I may rebuild it anyway)... Eventually you can catch the motor off gaurd and get the rpms up.. it's doggy down low and the around 4 grand it has all of its power back....but only @ 4,00rpms. I replaced a few electronic things on it; MAF, ICS, and ACV.. No luck. The check engine light is not on..so I am aslo think the ECU is Shot..The car also got shitty gas...10mpg...My questons are the following; Should I replace the ECU anyway after I rebuild the motor? Can I find High compresion pistons for this motor? My connecting rods and crank from my 1.8 will fit on the 2.2 right? Are the 1.8 heads better for more hp then the stock 2.2?

FYI the 1.8 is from my 93 Impreza AWD 4eat

Thanks

Are you sure it's not just bad plug wires? Does it burn oil?

no it doesn't burn oil...and She said she never chjanged the plugs on it so I could try that... But It doesn't feel like an ignition problem.

Sounds like one. I'd replace the plugs, wires, and fuel filter.

but I plan on either higher compresion or dropping the compresion for forced induction
