Ebay Header Cheap

Please tell me somebody has tried one of these.
I know the flanges are probably chrome plated mild steel, but come on thats cheap.

Are the WRX and EJ22T engines about the same or what? I am new to this whole sube engines deal, and wanting to know. It seems alot of the stuff for the WRX is that same as the older turbo stuff.

They are pretty much the same.
If I were you, I'd continue using the stock exhaust headers, most headers will take away the boxor rumble, and increase spool time. You'd be better off getting your exhaust headers ported.

Yeah I think they are probobly more trouble than they are worth. I value bottom end, so I will probobly stick with stock.

yea, i have headers on my car (frankenstein motor in my sig) and the spool up is a little bit slower. it usually doesnt take away the boxer rumble unless it is equal length headers. my car still retains the rumble.

Those will also be MUCH lighter than your stock headers, for what it's worth.

yea that is true. my whole header weighs as much as one side of the stock header. i dont think the weight savings is enough though.

i think stock headers which are ported or whatever is a good way to go. i believe its becuase the headers are stainless steel, that is why. it loses heat faster than the stock headers.

The ceramic coatings will definitely improve the heat retention. However I couldn't tell you how they compare to the stock header setup.
Once I get a new turbo on my setup, and get some run time with the stock headers, I'm going to switch on the ceramic coated borlas I have, and see what kind of difference I get.

Hello guys, my $.02 on this subject.
I have been looking at these headers also. I have come to the conclusion that they are not worth the money. They might look cool for a while but they are very poorly designed. The collector sucks, this puts all four primary tube exhaust pulses at the same place to then have to either go up the secondary pipe or revert down the opposite primary tube..... This would explain the experience of extended time to boost threshold since the turbine is not seeing the same exhaust energies it does with the stock unit. The OBX unit is the only one that I have seen on FleaBay that I think is interesting enough to try. However it is a $400 try. Oh and BTW, 304 and 321 stainless steel has 209% less heat conductivity than mild steel. On average it will retain the heat of the exhaust within the interior of the tube better than cast iron. Essentially making coatings a unnessesary addtional expense on stainless, UNLESS you are having trouble with frying things that are near the exhaust. Take a look at most F1 or simular racing engines, they are using Inconel or at the least 321 SS, it is not coated or wrapped in most applications as it doesn't need to be. If it is wrapped Inconel and 321 are about the only alloys that will put up with the punishment.
Take a look at Burns Stainless (
http://www.burnsstainless.com), they have some good information regarding materials and also some very nice collectors. They work, and very well, however they are not cheap considering it would cost ~$350 for collectors (3ea 2into1), then another $150 plus in tubing, ~$100 for flanges, ~275 2-1 turbo collector, then put it all together. This makes for a really nice ~$1000 header when you are done.

It will work substantially better than stock or one of these cheapies, provided it is designed and built properly.
Does anyone know if anyone has Extrude Honed the stock cast pieces?

I’ll add another 2 cents…
Certainly header design can have a great effect on exhaust gas flow, but I suspect that the increase in spool up time seen with most aftermarket headers is due to larger tube diameters that slow the gas flow resulting in less kinetic energy at the turbine inlet. Also the slow flow gives the gas more time in the header to loose heat (thought the reduced thermal conductivity of the stainless should make up for that).

OK... am I the only one that thinks these headers will cause a problem with any turbocharged vehicle...?
Where's the turbo go? These headers are like a turbo-delete modification... they've got the turbo flange on the end there, to hook up to the rest of the turbo's exhaust, but they don't feed the turbine at all... just a flex pipe.
So I would think that these headers would be terrible for spool time and turbo lag, both of which would go through the roof with a set of these headers installed...
Edit: Wait... I suppose that flange could mate up with the turbine's 3-bolt inlet flange, it just looks like the turbine outlet / wastegate flange and was not making sense to me.

I have that exact header. the build quality seems pretty good for the price. The engine isn't running yet and I need to modify my header anyway (I run a big turbo

) but I think it'll work out pertty well. Worth the cash IMHO and whoever won that auction got it even cheaper than I did (I think I paid $120 for mine)

According to Cobb, the factory exhaust manifold is very good, and I believe them. The cast iron collectors hold heat in well, and its a decently efficient design. There is a guy in the Twin Cities that ports and ceramic coats suabru exhaust manifolds for $150 so I'm gonna do that this spring. In the mean time, I've 50 ft of 2" header wrap.
Besides, all the headers I've seen sit about 4" off the ground
